well at least nimory directed decent films that didnt crap all over the other characters.
really i think people would have had a different view of shatner if he never had done the fifth film.
that and for awhile it seemed that shatner's ego just went into this crazy over drive.
though over the years it really seems to have moderated and tempered some what.
shatner for me became a lot more tolerable after he either developed a sense of humor about himself or allowed it to surface in public.

and i agree with sam that trek owes a lot to shatner, nimoy for how they played those roles.
kirk always was one of my favorites and i didnt let how i felt about shatner the person get in the way of appreciating how shatner the actor played kirk.

as for the whole shatner in the movie thing..
from things said recently yeah shatner wanted more then a cameo but the movie as written .. well things just couldnt be worked out.
and evidently shatner is ok with that.
also add in that perhaps the whole looming writers strike kept them from really having time to tinker around to try and fit him in.
perhaps though things might be different for the sequel.

For Shatner to appear, the story would have to heavily involve his portrayal of Kirk. Not gonna happen.

I wish Kirk had a brief appearance as shatner. Maybe Pine looking into a mirror and seeing old shatner looking back -- Scary!!

If the new PTB say The Shat could not fit into the story without feeling shoe-horned then that's good enough for me. (;-)

We're in a New-Verse where anything may not happen the same way it did before, Kirk may and probably won't die on Veridian III in this verse so he can potentially be in a future sequel. Just wait for it.

I have to tell you ...I didn't even know he was friggin dead until recently! I haven't seen any of the movies after Search for Spock -- I know it's shameful...

Dude, the death of Kirk was a massive event, how'd you miss a thing like the death of Kirk, pointless though it was, Kirk fuckin' died, man.

I remember it in papers and mags in '94. Kirks death was a major passing, it was like the death of a president, only more important and more pointless.

First, don't dude me...perhaps and I'll use this term loosely...I'm a "lady" LOL...perhaps...you just don't ever know do you?

I know I missed it...i said I was ashamed and then you have to go shame me some more ...But from 94-2009 I had no idea that my man was dead...NONE! Can you belive it? I know it's SHOCKING! And to hear that it was pointless just boggles my mind...whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?? Why???????????? See I'm greiving...OK OK it's 15yrs late but it still hurts!!
