How could he conceive major plot elements if he has never seen a full episode of TNG?
Geez, folks, it ain't rocket science. It's not like he writing a sequel to War and Peace.
How could he conceive major plot elements if he has never seen a full episode of TNG?
Exactly. It's not that unusual a writing process when multiple authors are involved. One person blocks out scenes, plot points, dialogue while another does the narrative/descriptive writing.
Yeah.
You can call that "writing" if you want to.
Well, here's a peculiar thought:
Has anyone ever seen or read about Shatner's favorite movies? Are there any photos of him at premiere events, for example, other than for a project that he's involved in?
Unlikely as it may seem, Shatner may not be much of a moviegoer period and may never have been. The only reference I've ever seen him make to films has been to express admiration for Spencer Tracy, with whom he worked.
....Now that Nimoy has effectively passed the torch, I hope that Trek XII will leave the Prime Universe behind and take off in new directions in the Abramsverse....What do people think?
Yes, I think this is probably the most sensible post in this thread. I can't believe people are actually trying to say Shatner has some kind of "issues" just because he hasn't bothered to watch a movie.Shatner hasn't even seen the full episodes he appeared in. Most of the actors in a TV show don't. It's work, they do that for a living, they don't have time to be fans of it at the same time.
Some of you sound like Shatner was personally insulting you by not seeing this new movie. Put the fan back in fanatic.
Fascinating speculation on Shatner. He's friends with Nimoy, right? Why not watch the movie to see how Nimoy did? Why not after all these years be curious about how they include Spock in this movie?
All of that granted, I don't think it's stretching things to say that Shatner got a lot of attention before the movie came out as a result of not being in the film. It's only a small step from there to suppose that he won't mind getting a lot more attention as result of saying that he hasn't seen it, either. It's an easy win for Shatner and he doesn't even really have to go out of his way to get it -- people will keep coming to him to ask about it. Sounds like an ideal situation for him to be in, does it not?Yes, I think this is probably the most sensible post in this thread. I suspect the reason Shatner doesn't particularly care to spend his free time watching movies is similar to why most people don't spend their free time immersed in the same activities they use to make a living. A little balance in one's life can be a good thing.
Although it apparently rubs some people the wrong way, Shatner is not a Trekkie. His life does not revolve around Star Trek. Get over it! It's really not a sin.![]()
Shatner is not obligated to see STXI. Why should he?
He was not in the movie so what is the motive to see it? Did it matter if he saw any of other TNG movies? DS9? VOY? of ENT?
Another reason to bash Shatner.
LOLHe probably heard of the ludicrous storyline and decided to take a pass.
But you are not Big Giant Head, I mean Shatner. The world does not revolve around you.But his very good friend was in it, at least he could see Nimoy's parts. If one of my good friends was in a movie I'd want to see it.

Well, yeah, if a friend of mine managed to get into a movie, sure I'd go to see it, but this really isn't the same thing. These two men are lifelong working actors as well as lifelong friends. I doubt that seeing either of their faces up on the Big Screen is any particular thrill for the other. But his very good friend was in it, at least he could see Nimoy's parts. In fairness, the plot of Star Trek V is more coherent.
In fact, I'd go as far as to say Shatner did a lousy job with a decent idea, and Abrams did a bang-up job with a terrible idea.
