Shatner calls Abrams "A Pig."

I must admit, the idea of Shatner delivering a monologue in Huttese, in tradtionaln Shatner world delivery is just too... awesome...forwords!

Shatner has to be a Captain of a starship, either Imperial or Alliance/New Republic. Even funnier if ship is named Enterprise.

I don't know which forum is most appropriate for this. Since it's Abrams related, I'll post it here and let the moderators determine its suitability:

It seems Shatner's pissed at Abrams over taking Star Wars, feeling that controlling the two biggest sci-fi franchises is going "too far" and that Abrams is "being a pig."

Shatner also feels put out that despite controlling two franchises, Abrams still can't get a role for him. Hell, it's not too late, I say give Shatner a role in Star Wars VII. Shatner in Star Wars, the very concept is awesome.

But really, it is gratifying to see someone whose opinion matters expressing displeasure with Abrams. Personally, the fact that he now controls Star Wars doesn't bother me any, but I know it has generated some heated debate here, and now Shatner himself has spoken against it.

So, what are everyone's thoughts on the matter?

Shatner's opinion doesnt really matter.

I don't understand why some trek fans are incapable of getting even the simplest humor.

The Shat goes on to say:

I think it’s time for J.J. and I to have another sushi and let me put him straight about two of the largest franchises, and not employing me in either one of them. I think he’s just foolhardy.
I mean Jesus Christ, people!

Because its fashionable amongst the more douchey hard core dork Trekker set to Shatnerbash for some odd reason. (I think they seem to be from the same odd culture that think Takei is somehow on the same pecking order Trek level as Shatner)
And because most of them have no sense of humor
And because irony does not often translate with them

I think it's a bit of a stretch to call anything posted so far in this thread "Shatnerbashing," and your post would have been just as effective had you omitted the completely unnecessary "more douchey hard core dork Trekker set" and "same odd culture" jabs.

It's quite clear from the quote (as well as other quotes where Shatner praises both JJ and the new movies) that The Shat was just having a bit of fun. Anyone who can't see that for themselves obviously hasn't got a radar for tongue-in-cheek humor. ;)

Trek Fans, way to play into the stereotype: "Humor. It is a difficult concept. It is not logical."

Missed Shatner Humor in 1986 - "Get a life!"

Missed Shatner Humor in 2013 - "JJ's a pig!"

I love Shatner, and consider him to be a hugely entertaining figure AND I admire the work he has done in Star Trek...
...But I also think he is a goof-ball publicity-whore who likes to say things to get a rise out of people and get mentioned in entertainment articles and message boards -- BUT I still find him likable.

I don't feel those two things are mutually exclusive, and you may call it "Shatnerbashing", but I don't feel I am bashing him, but rather just being realistic about him. He isn't a perfect god and he isn't a despicable jerk. Just like most people, he is somewhere in between.

You've summed up my thoughts on him, too. He's crazy like a fox and "frutier than a nutcake," but I admire the hell out of someone who can stay relevant in pop culture for over 50 years (don't forget the pre-Trek years, like "Trial at Nuremberg" and his "Twilight Zone" episodes).

You know that eventually Abrams is going to use Shatner in some kind of movie or TV series - maybe even in a small role - and the publicity will be enormous and lots of fun.

Hopefully sooner than later! Shatner seems to be quite healthy and very active, but he is 81.

I think Shatner was being sarcastic and joking in this.

Though the thought of having Shatner in the new Star Wars movie does intrigue me....

Nah, Shatner was already in one of the best Star Wars movies to come out in the past 15 years... he was the Scruffy Nerfherder in Fanboys. ;)

A famous, retired space captain - in Star Wars VII. Han Solo's childhood hero. Made the Kessel run in 9 parsecs.
