Shatner calls Abrams "A Pig."

The Wormhole

I don't know which forum is most appropriate for this. Since it's Abrams related, I'll post it here and let the moderators determine its suitability:

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/william-shatner-says-j-j-abrams-gone-too-181738978.html

It seems Shatner's pissed at Abrams over taking Star Wars, feeling that controlling the two biggest sci-fi franchises is going "too far" and that Abrams is "being a pig."

Shatner also feels put out that despite controlling two franchises, Abrams still can't get a role for him. Hell, it's not too late, I say give Shatner a role in Star Wars VII. Shatner in Star Wars, the very concept is awesome.

But really, it is gratifying to see someone whose opinion matters expressing displeasure with Abrams. Personally, the fact that he now controls Star Wars doesn't bother me any, but I know it has generated some heated debate here, and now Shatner himself has spoken against it.

So, what are everyone's thoughts on the matter?

Perhaps Abrams will have a cameo in Star Wars VII as a Gamorrean Guard. Or, cast Shatner as one.

They can both be rather piggish sometimes!

I think 99% of what Shatner says has to be taken as tongue in cheek. He tends to say things for effect and then let folks decide for themselves if he's sincere or not. I doubt he was, this time.

As far as a part for him in the new "Star Wars" movie goes, how about Jabba the Hut?

Shatner's opinion does not matter. The franchise lives without him. This is what really bothers Shatner... his ego cannot conceive of Trek without him.

Appropriate. No padding needed... and he'd be happy as boss of his own planet.:techman:

Yavin. And I'm not talking about the moon.

"That's no moon."

I think Shatner was being sarcastic and joking in this.

Though the thought of having Shatner in the new Star Wars movie does intrigue me....

Well, yeah - that's pretty much a given.

The press keeps inviting Shatner to comment on this or that, because they know he's nearly always willing to oblige with something funny or outrageous (or both.) They get something to print; Shatner gets an opportunity to ham it up; everybody's happy. :techman:

Well, if we're posting Shatner recent quotes

He’s a wonderful director. He’s discovered the way of giving the audience a ride in Star Trek which is what the early Star Trek movies didn’t have–we didn’t have the technology and the people–even the primitive technology of doing that. But now that the computers have taken over in epic films, he knows how to do that. So he is on the right level.

Maybe he was being sarcastic about THAT, too. :p

Could be. It's Shatner after all

You know, I bet a fair number of celebrities get a kick out of the way he answers some questions. They always get these stupid, softball, "How do you feel about...?" types of questions that they just brush off with platitudes that may or may not even be sincere. Not Shatner. Which answer below is more entertaining?

Interviewer: Mr. Shatner, how do you feel about J.J. Abrams getting to direct the new "Star Wars" movie?
Shatner [Answer I]: I think he'll do a fantastic job. He did a great job putting energy back into "Star Trek". He's a great director with a big vision. Being such a big "Star Wars" fan, he's got to feel like the luckiest guy in Hollywood, right now. I'm very happy for him."
Shatner [Answer II]: It's a power grab. The guy's becoming piggish. He has some success with "Star Trek", and now he goes after "Star Wars". You know what I think? He's always been big "Star Wars" fan. I think he just used "Star Trek" as a vehicle to audition for "Star Wars". What's next for him? The Avengers?

Which answer gets Shatner quoted in more trade magazines? The Shat knows publicity. He knows it's too absurd to be taken as true. He knows it's better than the stock answer. Hell, it's fun.

I don't understand why some trek fans are incapable of getting even the simplest humor.

The Shat goes on to say:

I think it’s time for J.J. and I to have another sushi and let me put him straight about two of the largest franchises, and not employing me in either one of them. I think he’s just foolhardy.
I mean Jesus Christ, people!
