SGU Countdown

1 Week to go. September, 28th at 9/8c.

If you have missed previous episodes, the past 5 are on SYFY rewind - http://www.syfy.com/rewind/?sid=1162843

I'm going to watch Incursion Part 1 and 2 again to remind me what happened.

BTW, I will have the running commentary/grading thread up on the 28th for the premier. The thread will be combined running commentary and grading in one thread so those that like to watch it live and chat can use it, and then it'll merge into grading the episode.

I actually still haven't watched the final 2 episodes from season 1. My brother and I've been too busy to see them so we have to do it soon. I don't want to fall too far behind.

Ratings are already fairly low. It'll probably retain the franchise's hard core fan base.

Hell no. Lots of hardcore fans dislike it (as demonstrated by SGU stars getting ignored at SG conventions and the declining ratings) for various reasons (bad writing, unlikeable characters, the overused musical montages, etc...). Then there's the fact that some of the people associated with SGU have been making pretty inflammatory comments about Stargate fans, so basically they're doing everything in their power to get rid of the people who enjoyed SG-1 and/or Atlantis.

Are SGU actors really being ignored at conventions:eek:

I'd describe the hardcore fans as the ones who won't stop tuning in until the show dies, I think. Not that the fanbase you describe is casual, but less insanely invested in the proceedings than the one million fans who tune into the franchise regardless of what it looks like.

At the SG:U Comic Con panel, after about 15 minutes of the cast talking they opened up the floor to questions from the audience of thousands; no one asked anything. The moderator of the panel took over and began talking to the cast until finally some fans stepped up and asked some questions. What were the questions? Personal questions to David Blue. I think there were one or two questions directed at the rest of the cast/crew about their characters and/or the show.

^Ouch. That's not very nice.

I actually like this show...the problem is it's just different enough for a lot of hardcore fans to hate it but doesn't seem quite different enough to attract many new fans. Way to strike a balance, guys.

Seems like Syfy is really trying to get in on the Tuesday night action. Man, I never understood the wrestling being on Syfy network. It's just mind boggling.

It's not that's different, it's that the show is a horribly executed mess that's the issue. People were willing to have a serialized Stargate show with a darker tone and an increased focus on the characters, but the show doesn't have the writing and the characters to pull it off.

I dunno, I enjoyed Season 1 quite a bit. I think the biggest problem with the characters isn't that they're bad; it's that they're all still very individual. There's no sense that these people are a part of a team, so it's hard to really relate to any of them. There are lots of recurring characters running around, and sometimes it hard to tell which ones I'm really supposed to be invested in.

I think it would beneficial for the Destiny to completely lose contact with Earth for a while so we can really focus on the relationships on board the ship. It's too easy to get distracted when the characters are using the stones to go back and forth to Earth every episode.

^^ I agree with that RoJoHen. There is almost no sense of teamwork among these people. They need to stop thier individual pissing contests and start working together. When you're on a ship that you can't control and survival is at stake, everyone needs to work together and not fight about who gives the orders.

Also, the Earth visits are stupid just allowing them to walk around unescorted in other people's bodies with absolutely no consequences.

The show is not a horribly executed mess. That's not the problem with some fans.

The problem is SGU is not SGA and SGA was cancelled. That is really the long and short of it. They are SGA fanatics.

I just love it when someone makes an assertion like this. Since you don't think the show is a mess, there's no possible way anyone could genuinely believe it is unless they're bitter over the end of a different show.

Explain me, then. My criticism is independent of SGA, because I am most definitely not an SGA fanatic. I thought the show was fine but was certainly not enamored with it, its characters, or its recycled SG-1 plots (bringing the Replicators back again... and again... and again... for example). I'm sticking with the show, for now, into season 2 because I think it still has a chance to do interesting things and be a mature entry for the franchise. However, I think the show in season 1 was a mess because I didn't give a damn about any one of the characters onboard Destiny, which is an absolute failure on the part of the team making the show.

My point is that it is idiotic to assume people are criticizing something because they are unhappy that SGU is not SGA.
