I don't have a whole lot to say about this episode. There were several storylines going through it and I'd be hard pressed to call one of them the "A" story. Makes the show feel muddled and unfocused.
Anyway, I liked Rush's save, showing everyone his "thinking room" as if that's where he's been all those times he was unavailable. Also pretty sleazy how he sold Chloe up the river to Young then made her completely beholden to him with his "cure." I'll give Rush credit for being able to get the most out of a lousy situation.
The mystery surrounding Chloe was interesting but Chloe
herself was vacuous as usual. She really need to step up her acting. Better writing wouldn't hurt, either....
The plot with Eli's mom was just painful for the most part, but at least it had a solid payoff. Wray stepping in and pulling strings surprised me. I also like that they showed her and her partner having issues. The "honeymoon" period for this whole situation is long over, and it's about time the cracks started to show.
I also don't think she was working an angle with Eli. Her character has always come off as more naive and overly optimistic than anything else. I don't think deception and manipulation are significant traits for her. Had Rush done it, sure, he'd be getting something out of it--Rush never does anything out of the goodness of his heart, it seems. I can get that Wray did it because she was hurting, saw Eli hurting, and figured that she could at least help him and his mother even if she couldn't help herself.
OK, I guess I had more to say about this than I thought.
Personally, I
like the "character drama" shows, as long as they're good. This one wasn't great but it wasn't terrible, either.
I sure hope this shit with T-Bag is going somewhere, though. So far all I've learned is that Robert Knepper is incredibly underwhelming when he's not chewing scenery.
