9. Wow, this one was really good!! Pretty intense at points. Good characterization. Action.

I don't know much about studio back lots and the like, but the city setting reminded me of the one they used in classic Trek for A Piece of the Action, Miri, and the like.

Really too bad it's getting cancelled now!

Total speculation but I'm guessing that it's one of Novus' colonies that produced the drones in order to keep the other colonies from becoming a threat. Probably all of the colonies are wiped out and that's the bittersweet ending. Probably from Futura.

I'm guessing that it was Novus that created the drones to keep the colonies in line. That city on Novus didn't appear to suffer any drone-related damage, and with that level of technology and apparent gate use, you'd think that they'd be a magnet for the drones.

I actually though it may have been the same place, but I wasn't sure if it was the same place, or just had the same feel from being an abandoned planet of a similar look to Earth.

is it just me or was the music especially good?

edit: so i recently rewatched a few episodes from season 1, and lemme tell you guys, the character interactions in season 2 are a lot more natural and enjoyable to watch and listen to than during those early episodes. It's easier to imagine them as friends now.

I would think that was mostly intentional. They weren't supposed to be chummy early on. Again, this isn't VOY in which the Maquis blended in with Starfleet overnight. It is not eevn SG1 and SGA in which eevryone bonded immediately. There was real tension amonst the crew of Destiny and part of the payoff of season one is that they formed relationships and/or gained the trusts of others over the course of 20 episodes (and more if you include early parts of season two).

Also, it's obvious the writers started liking the secondary characters more and more over certain primary characters. Volkers, Brody, Park, and Lt. James are just as likable if not more likable than some of the mains.

It isn't obvious because TPTB are still giving the primary characters the vast majority of the storylines and just about as much growth and attention as they got in season one. Instead what the writers did is demonstrate that TV shows don't have to be only about three or four characters. You can have over a dozen interesting characters if you are invested in making all characters interesting. I think it is simply the show having an abundance of worthy characters as a result of the writing and acting.


And, hey, sure the writers probably found their footing during season two of SGU. No shame in that. The first seasons of TNG, DS9 and B5 were weak overall and I say that as huge fans of all three series. If those shows were airing on a cable station like SyFy rather than syndicated TV; if they had to compete against a faster internet, downloads, DVDs/blurays, web series, a more expansive cable market, YouTube and Hulu (which take away viewers from TV sets), etc, it is likely most if not all of those three shows wouldn't have lasted as long as they did.

Yes, SGU's music is pretty good. It has a sort of "campy action show" style to it. It's not aiming to be good music per se, it's aiming to be unabashedly intense. That's the best way I can describe it.

Music has been great since the beginning. Think about the third part of "Air" and the episode "Light." Just epic.

And speaking of Varro, I was surprised to see him up and around as if his injuries last week never happened. I thought they'd go somewhere with it like make him crippled or at least show him recovering.

He was walking around with a noticeable limp. Bruises to his face were still evident too.

I don't mind thses brief appearances. Not every guest has to be front and center.

I usually prefer it if guest characters contribute to the plot. What does Telford do here? After hearing the plan he suggests using the stones to bring in experts to help pull this off. After this suggestion is shot down, he mentions running the idea by the Homeworld Command brass, but Young says they're not looking for permission and that the plan is going ahead. Did we even need anyone from Earth for this scene? They could easily have just had someone from the Destiny crew ask about bringing specialists from Earth and then consider contacting Earth for permission.

If you don't think it adds something to the story then that's fine. But as long as it doesn' take anything away from the story or take up much time what's the big deal? Besides it was the correct thing to do to inform Telford (and thereby informing us, the audience) what the stakes were. It kills two birds with one stone. It allows Telford to be able to tell command what the situation is and at the same time it drives home the point that they don't have any other course of action.

The VFX in this series is the absolute best that I have ever seen on a television show and blows most blockbusters out of the water.

I certainly agree with that! These folks know how it should be done!

I was hoping that the season (series) finale would be about Destiny's mission, but instead it's those silly drone things.

- Rush’s interpretation of Volker’s story (“When people’s lives depended on him making it to the next gas station…”) was hilarious.
- That gate effect, especially Young going through, looks awesome.
- Small search teams = all our main characters and supporting cast.
- For the record, we Canadians do have gun shops.
- The visuals in this episode were just spectacular.
- Park’s blinding just sounded horrific.

I actually thought they were going to kill her. First time the show has really had me on the edge of my seat. (Actually, it's a little improbable that she survived!)

While this is true, SGU producers should not have made the S2 finale a cliffhanger unless they were at least pretty sure they would get a 3rd season. rating were low before they wrote the last episode so they should have been a little carefull IMO. I'm not saying they should have written the finale to be a series finale but at least not a cliffhanger.

Pretty sure the the last episode had been filmed even before the second season had premièred. I'm not sure if it has been shot though.

The music during the space battle caught my attention right away. I liked it. Wonder if it's available anywhere yet? Is there going to be an SGU soundtrack for sale?
