Meh, it's pretty average. There were some nice character moments, especially between Greer and Volker. Their conversation about the canned food, ("we'll find out what's inside when we open it") and their search for a gun shop ("What kind of city doesn't have a gun shop?" "Maybe they were Canadian?") were stand out moments. I also like Rush's attitude towards Park being trapped. Don't get me wrong, it shows he's a prick and a douche, but it's interesting to see a character with different priorities than everyone else. It would have been better had they been depicting him like this, the guy so fixed on a particular goal that he isn't opposed to sacrificing someone to achieve it than the constant shady bastard with a hidden agenda. Also, the music at the beginning when the Command Ship was attacking was awesome.

You know, I think this might be the first time in the franchise the Stargate was used to visit a world that was at our exact level of technology. Novus doesn't count since they didn't use the Stargate to go there last week. Otherwise everyone else in SG-1 and Atlantis has either been behind Earth by serveral decades or centuries, or ahead of Earth by several decades or centuries. It's interesting that we wait until the second last episode of the Stargate franchise, and possibly the last time we see them go to another planet is when we go to one at an equal level of development.

I'lm going to take a moment to establish once and for all: I don't care about the Drones and their Command Ships. In all their episodes they've been nothing but a distraction from the main plot and there's been no effort to establish who or what they are. In fact, this is essentially the same problem SGU has had with all it villains, be they the Drones or the Sombreroids or the Lucian Alliance or whoever. There's been no effort to establish their motivations or intentions. Sure, the Goa'uld, Ori, and Wraith may not have been the best villains around, but at least we had a clear idea of their intentions and what they were about. SGU's villains are basically just someone to shoot at, and I'm yawning over it.

So Varo has now ditched his Lucian Alliance leather and is now wearing US military fatigues. What is this, indication that he's now become one of the gang? And what is up with the rocket launcher? First, how do they have a rocket launcher on Destiny? Was it one of the things they just happened to take with them when they left Icarus, or did the Lucian Alliance bring one when they arrived? And why did they bring a rocket launcher with them to what seemed like an abandoned planet they were only planning to spend half a day at as opposed to any of the missions they've been on where they were expecting action?

Telford's appearance this week was really pointless. What, do they have some sort of quota of episodes LDP has to appear that they're trying to fill?

Yes, SGU's music is pretty good. It has a sort of "campy action show" style to it. It's not aiming to be good music per se, it's aiming to be unabashedly intense. That's the best way I can describe it.

I don't mind thses brief appearances. Not every guest has to be front and center.

And speaking of Varro, I was surprised to see him up and around as if his injuries last week never happened. I thought they'd go somewhere with it like make him crippled or at least show him recovering.

"Sir we can't call them Cylons" :vulcan:

I figure it was a Lucian Alliance weapon I guess many of the Marines were killed in the take over of Destiny

I usually prefer it if guest characters contribute to the plot. What does Telford do here? After hearing the plan he suggests using the stones to bring in experts to help pull this off. After this suggestion is shot down, he mentions running the idea by the Homeworld Command brass, but Young says they're not looking for permission and that the plan is going ahead. Did we even need anyone from Earth for this scene? They could easily have just had someone from the Destiny crew ask about bringing specialists from Earth and then consider contacting Earth for permission.

I'm not familiar with firearms, but is it possible that the rocket launcher is susceptible to extreme heat? They might have brought all their ammo/etc to prevent explosions.

Or could have just figured that they only had a few seconds to do recon before everyone jumped in, and didn't really know what to expect, so better to be over-equipped rather than under-equipped. Didn't seem unreasonable.

The point of Telford being there was to further illustrate the way Young is leaning further and further away from his chain of command, and closer and close to Rush and the mission. They're even getting quite pally at times.

I guess Young realized that keeping Varro locked up after all he did in The Hunt and Epilogue would make him look like a douchebag, so he let Varro become one of them. As for the rocket launcher, I'm thinking it came from Novus, because it looks like nothing built on Earth and is pretty powerful for something that small.

Honestly, I think SGU's music is pretty good for being sort of techno/electronic music. Way better then Vengalis's score for Blade Runner or the wallpaper music of Mass Effect, that's for sure (although SGU's music would be perfect for Mass Effect).

Im willing to bet the drones are from Futura ;)

I was thinking the same thing or that Rush invented them after the rest of the crew was stranded on Novus, and over the last 2000 years the have evolved into what they are now.

Some good one liners in the episode

Volker- Yay botulism....

And I was really concerned about Park when she was burning up then told Eli she couldn't see.

I love the little touches like how english could evolve in 2,000 years in isolation.

KANDY SHOP, ATAK

LOL

I have no problem behaving.

I can see that.

I wont be going away.

I predict otherwise.

On the topic at hand:

Also "Elektroniks". Seemed like the culture had gotten rid of the letter "C"... except that there were a bunch of other signs with words like "cafe" and "cobalt" that were spelled normally. So I'm not sure what to make of that.

The VFX in this series is the absolute best that I have ever seen on a television show and blows most blockbusters out of the water.

The show's also well-lit, especially aboard the Destiny. You could feel the heat and shimmers of the steam in the ship as it went through the star.

What to makes of it? The English language is already full of idiotic exceptions and nonsensical reasoning. "i before e except after c unless there's a y or the color blue can be seen but not when Venus is on the rise over Apollo's arse unless a volcano is erupting in Iceland and then only sometimes."
