He came back from Earth (sent there at the end of 'The Seed') in the episode 'Whispers', and decided to go out to the many worlds affected by Micheal's plague to help the victims, kind of a Doctor's without Borders like role.
Wow...who needs over hyped mid season 2 parters, when you can get an episode like this. A superior entry for Atlantis, packed with real tension, drama, an effective guest cast, and humorous bits that were actually funny and not strained for laughs. Wraith that are written as smart-well, the speaking ones at least, requiring our heroes to rise to the challenge and out think them, as opposed to gunning their way to a conclusion.
So good, I wasn't the least bit bothered by the low tech mining village, a welcome relief from the 'Renaissance fair' look most planets get.
Daedalus Variations gets the boot from the number one, best episode of the season spot.
Good. This didn't feel like Yet Another Rehash, maybe because it seemed like the characters were actually thinking things through for a change and coming up with plausible plans. And when those plans let to bad things happening, the writers didn't let the characters off the hook with an easy out.
Carson is a much better character than Keller. Rodney is getting massively annoying, though.
Next week should be fun.
They better get OJ's lawyer or they're sunk because I never saw anyone as guilty as the Atlanteans of carelessness, magical thinking and just plain stupidity. I give the Pegasans permission to burn them at the stake.
This ep underlines that killing Dr Beckett was one of the dumbest Atlantis casting moves ever. Gotta love the part where he and Rodney are talking about breaking out of the cell... "I see a pattern here" LOL!!
Shep sure got the 600 odd villagers through the gate Most Righteously quick.
How long does the team have to go without checking in for Atlantis to dial them and radio for an update? From this ep the team can go from noon time one day to morning the next, that's what, eighteen hours?
Outsiders was sure better than the eps that opened the season!
Here in the LA area one of the commercials was for phone personals... I guess someone is thinking nerdy SF fans only watch TV on Friday night if they don't have dates.

Average. Almost breaking into 'Above Average', but not quite, featuring some characters in both the main and guest casts making some tough choices and one guest character in particular having to live with the guilt from his decision.
The 'ren-fair sets' comments ignore the fact that the Wraith don't allow many civilisations to make great progress in terms of technology.
...but doesn't let the show get off the hook for surprisingly repetitive and boring art direction and production design with those sets. Like the TNG "Planet Hell" set, it was a good idea that quickly wore out its welcome. Glad to see Universe has razed it.
I understand that human populations have been culled or whatever, but the idea that every planet has only one small village is preposterous to me now. Seriously, I think there may be more humans on Earth than there are in the Pegasus galaxy or even the rest of the Milky Way.

Well they aren't going to stray too far from the stargate at any rate but there's probably hundreds if not thousands of stargate in the Pegasus galaxy some on a planet some in orbit and th wraith aren't going to allow them any technology.

So, we know there are "millions" of people in the Pegasus galaxy from all the times when the Atlantis people say "millions" of lives are at risk.
Let's say each planet has a village of 1000 people (even though the one here had 700 people), so that means there are a thousand planets for every million human beings in the Pegasus galaxy.
I don't know, I just think that's fairly high dispersion.

Exactly. While the set had more of a mining colony vibe to it this time out, the lack of diversity of design of the low tech populations is what's gotten one everyone's nerves. Throw in a Tantooine/Mos Eisley style settlement every now and then. Why not some Dakara style ruins throughout Pegasus? Or more nu-Ancienty designed, abandoned cities. They don't have to be loaded with high tech, but some variety in where these humans live would be a welcome relief. Star Trek Enterprise had a s3 episode, "Twilight" where they built houses from the ship after settling on a planet and it looked cool, and is something ATL could have dome without blowing the budget.

If there is no Gate, you cannot rate! *Johnny Cochrane mode off*
Here's something I'm suprised nobody has brought up - who is satisfied with the whole "will the tower and gateroom be just fine in the next ep" treatment? I mean, you either:
a) are annoyed that there wasn't a scene showing the gateroom being patched up
b) glad that it wasn't shown back in pristine condition
c) annoyed that there wasn't a mention of such a watershed event (yeah I know, they got an ex-midway gate, but still...)
Maybe the next ep showing the gateroom will show the walls being patched up with mudbricks, thanks to the labor of all the renassaince fair inhabitants - or maybe habitats for pegasus-galaxy humanity will pitch in!
Seriously though, how do y'all feel about the treatment in the ep (or lack thereof) of the tower damage issue?
