Spoilers SFA Ships & Tech

I suspect both, actually. They need to be able to move around outside the confines of the ship and Nus Braka’s transmission was being projected onto the bridge. They likely use the onboard emitters to save power on their mobile devices.

His original mobile emitter was 29th century tech. It has been a few centuries since then (even with The Burn), plus Starfleet has had his original since the late 24th century.

So only three confirmed '32nd century' Klingon ships: the bird of prey, the battlecruiser, and the freighter?

That BOP looks like a weird hybrid of a B'Rel/K'Vort (body, neck & head) w/ the DSC BOP bat-like wings attached. Still all screams 23rd century to me.

The Klingons are known for keeping basic design shapes for centuries while upgrading the structural parts & inner guts.

If there is a new design, it's usually a big deal.

Yeah, but for 900 years? That's stretching credibility a bit.

And anyway, we all know the real reason for this: because the producers don’t care about the logic of in-universe ship designs. To them, a ship is a ship. They don’t have people like Sternbach, Okuda, Drexler et. al who actually know about this stuff. They’re just going to grab whatever they need from STO regardless of what time period the design was supposed to be from.

Yes it is.

Yup, that's how modern productions are.

In STO's lore, it's a refit of the DSC Bird of Prey

Basically the idea was to take the DSC BoP and make it look more like the B'Rel

Huh... Sure 'nuff.

It continues to amaze me how STO stuff keeps popping up in canon Trek, albeit anachronistically.

From 1x04:

1) The STO Klingon designs sorta makes sense given the state of the Empire. If Qo'noS and their main , modern fleet largely poofed out of existence in the Burn, and all they have left are centuries-old designs that are easier to maintain, then why not?

2) Regardless, the Klingon empire has apparently not succumbed to the insanity of detached hull design.

3) Today we see the Athena jettison everything except the central saucer section for its mission, including the odd neck section. While we see the neck as a support for the central saucer when landed, one wonders if this means it may connect to other things in space in some future iteration.

3) a. The neck contains the Athena's main deflector, so it's even stranger they left it behind. The section that DID go has warp and fighting capability.

3) b. I assume they separated because they wanted to leave the majority of kids behind in case anything went gagh-shaped. But if THAT were the case, I'd think they'd just leave the outer saucer section behind.

4) Starfleet Academy meals come in bento boxes, at least in this episode, or perhaps so they can be "smuggled" for the sake of the scene. Last week we saw Froot Loops were still a thing, but they weren't served in square tins.

It's apparently easier to take already-created designs/CGI models from STO and Eaglemoss than to pay someone to come up with original designs. Like I said, these people could care less about what the ships look like.

Did they specifically state in the episode that those ships were supposed to be centuries old?

Apparently there are three Klingon STO ships they used (besides the Groumall freighter.) Has anyone made out the Ketha Recon Raptor?
