I still think Jay-Den is going to wind up with Kyle due to the fact that...
In the upcoming comic from IDW, "Lost Contact", Jay-Den and Kyle, as well as Caleb and Tarima, are among the cadets with whom contact is lost during what was supposed to be a routine planetary survey.
I wonder how they couldn't make Stamets and Culber have even a fraction of that kind of chemistry. Those two seemed like they hadn't rocked the kasbah for 20 years.
Agreed, I'm guessing either the WC is going to be decimated and survivors, Sadal and Djokovic, join the Academy, or the WC quickly merge.
This is where I point out again that TNG wasted no time establishing that (like Decker and Ilia before them) Riker and Troi had a romantic history, that Picard and Crusher had an unspoken "thing" between them, and had Data hooking up with Yar by the second episode.
And don't get me started on all the steamy clinches and one-shot love interests on TOS.
Sex and romance have been part of Star Trek ever since the Talosians tried to get Pike to mate with Vina, way back in the original pilot episode.
Roddenberry was a horny guy. He wanted Risa to be a planet of polyamorous orgies. He wrote sex pods into his TMP novelisation. He inserted multiple mistresses into the show. He embraced slash fiction.
The Great Bird would be well up for some steamy Klingon on Khionian action.
Or it could be as simple as the two schools going on a field trip together.
I'm telling ya, all the references to polycule relationships and the fact that Jay-den's parents were in one is forshadowing. I think it's going to be a Kraag-Kyle-Darem menage a troi.

I'm kinda of the opinion that Darem has been into Jay-den since they first met. I think Darem saw a hot klingon, knew fighting and flirting are pretty much the same thing for Klingons but gets inadvertently cock-blocked by Caleb. Once Darem sees that Jay-den is not like other klingons, he stops being antagonistic. In the scene where Jay-den is trying to save Thok's life, Darem is down right tender and reassuring and keeps holding Jay-den's hands to help apply pressure.

I love how unsubtle the show is with its same sex chemistry. Too many shows and films don't treat same sex romances the same as straight ones.
