sf/f TV development news - 2013

I enjoyed Ghosts of Mars, though I admit not one of Carpenter's best.

Could this be re-worked as a mini-series?

And whatever happened to that proposed Black Hole remake I heard of a few years back? I know Disney may have got cold feet after the John Carpenter disaster, but hey they got the Star Wars franchise now, so maybe they'll give it another look?

Having the Star Wars rights might actually be the reason why Disney don't feel like they need to make a Black Hole remake anymore.

John Carpenter of Mars. That could be interesting. Escape From Helium. Big Trouble In Little Gathol. The Ghosts of Barsoom.

Who says the project is dead? News of it being in development only came out last fall, didn't it?

I'd watch!

As to the original question, I'm not sure there's much in The Ghosts of Mars that could use expanding. Then again, how many films did they get out of Halloween?

Here's kind of an off-the-wall suggestion from the Carpenter library, I think they probably could get some mileage out of They Live. Though a Big Trouble series could be a lot of fun.

Gorram facepalm - John Carpenter of Mars! Jeeze, it was late okay?? :)

Yeah, there's a load of Carpenter back-catalogue that could be re-worked, and I know at least two have been already (Assault on Precinct 13 and Halloween), and of course The Thing prequel. I also remember some talk of an Escape from New York remake a few years back too.

Big Trouble In Little China? Yeah I could see that working.

It's not a TV series, but John Carpenter is currently doing a comic book series sequel to BTiLC with The Goon's Eric Powell for Boom! Studios. I'm not sure if it's just a miniseries or an ongoing thing.

Syfy has ordered The Magicians to pilot. The show, based on a series of novels by Lev Grossman, was previously developed by Fox but didn't make it to a pilot order. Deadline's story is here.

MTV has ordered Shannara to series with a 10-episode order. You can read Deadline's report here.

There's a sentence I never thought I'd read.
Yeah, really. Maybe it's going to be Shannara: The Rock Opera. :rommie: But does MTV do anything musicaly related at all anymore?

I've only read one of the Shannara novels, and that had to be more than thirty years ago, but it seems like it would make for a good series. I might check it out, depending on how it looks.

I think MTV might occasionally show music videos for like an hour or two in the early morning.
MTV does seem like a weird choice for Shannara, but after Teen Wolf I'm willing to give them to the benefit of the doubt when it comes to genre shows.
