(This might be a little on the late side, but it's still technically the anniversary month, so I'm going for it! ;) )

As everyone knows, Star Trek celebrated its 50th anniversary on September 8 (September 6 for Canadians! ;) ). Probably most of us are fans of at least some segment of the franchise, which would have been what brought us to a site called "TrekBBS" in the first place.

This contest is all about celebrating 50 years of Star Trek. You may enter an avatar of a poignant scene, a favourite character, anything you wish. It can be from any of the series or movies, any era, any universe.

Standard avatar rules apply: maximum size of 200 x 200, and maximum file size of 1 MB. Contest will be open for approximately one week.

Have fun! :techman:

As a child I wasn't allowed to watch much TV, but I was allowed to read the books from the library, so my true introduction to most of TOS was from James Blish's prose adaptations of the TV episodes.

Though it's not actually from a movie of TV show, I still hope it's okay.

Obviously, as a kid I read the German editions, but I think this cover is more popular, and it is a fantastic illustration.

Sorry, all, this week has been like a VOY "Year of Hell" compressed into one week. So I'm going to leave this open till the end of the holiday weekend, and hopefully have the poll up Monday night. So you still have about 48 hours to enter, if you'd like to.

I may even try to create an entry myself...

Is that a spoiler for Star Trek 13? Capital!

Zut alors. Sorry, Gore-ac, I should have thought of that, and excluded Beyond in the rules. But I didn't think of it. My apologies. :(

I need your help, contest participants. I don't know what the protocol is for something like this. When I post the voting thread, should I put Aragorn's entry behind spoiler tags? Or would that unduly put the entry at a disadvantage in the voting? Or has the damage been done, and it doesn't matter now?

Thoughts?

Well, the movie's out since July, we have October. And even if you want to give people a chance to see it on Home Cinema first, well, the digital release was October 4 (according to CinemaBlend).

So, how long should there be a spoiler alert?!

Anyway, it's not that much of a spoiler. It's not like the reveal of a big plot twist or anything.

I thought the TrekBBS rule was six months, but I might be thinking of a rule specific to the TrekLit forum.

(And the North American blu-ray/DVD release is Nov 1, IIRC.)

Well, yeah, true. But I understand the desire to remain as unspoiled as possible. I just want to try to do right by all.

I wasn't really objecting, it was meant as a joke.

I actually made my first attempt to watch the movie last night. Fell asleep an hour in.

I've now watched the first hour three times. Can't wait to see how it ends!

Oh. Um, er, OK. Let's, uh, just move on, and, um, forget the spoiler-based drama, then. :alienblush:

Don't worry, you won't be able to fall asleep once the epic Apollo vs. Excalbian as Abraham Lincoln battle starts!

:censored:, I've done it again, haven't I?? :brickwall:

Anyhow, we now resume our regularly-scheduled avatar contest, already in progress.

Sneaking in just under the wire... it's certainly not the best scene, but it's definitely iconic:

Poll will go up in a couple hours.
