Thanks to everyone who voted in the last one.

The theme of this contest is “Flops and Failures”: Science Fiction/fantasy movies that, for whatever reason, are considered huge commercial failures or flops.

From the legendarily bad “Plan 9 from Outer Space” to “Battlefield Earth” to the allegedly so bad its un-releasable “Batgirl” film (reports of same being the inspiration for this contest), the realm of science fiction and fantasy has seen its unfortunate share of films that bombed at the box office, never got a full release or were considered “so bad they’re good.”

(Note: This doesn’t mean a box office smash you think sucked, so please no “Last Jedi,” "Crystal Skull," etc.)

What movies do you think fit that category?

Standard avatar contest rules apply: image must be no more than 200 x 200 pixels and 1 MB. All entries must be SFW. Each contestant may enter up to two entries. Please identify where your entry is from, even if it seems obvious. The contest will be open for about a week.

    Have at it everybody!

Is it stretching it a bit if I go with two movies featuring the same characters? Or will I get burned or clobbered by doing this? If so, I'll just stay quiet and pretend nobody can see me.

I'd always heard that Stallone's contract required a script where he would be without his helmet for most of the movie. Has anyone else heard that? Or more likely it was a studio decision.

I suspect most stars who work comic book movies insert clauses requiring some level of “unmasked” scenes.

Purely anecdotal, but it always seems to me that, the longer a comic book movie series lasts, the more scenes involve the hero not wearing a mask. For example, by the time of Endgame, the main characters were all wearing special uniforms without masks or helmets.

20th Century Fox asked the director of 2003's Daredevil whether it was really necessary for Ben Affleck's hero costume to involve a mask.

In the case of Judge Dredd, I suspect it was the studio demanding most of Stallone's scenes to be without a helmet. After all, they paid for the star, they wanted his full face to be visible on-screen.
