Not to derail this, but some of my least favorite episodes of Trek are the" sexy" ones.
Star Trek doesn't exactly have a stellar record of doing "sexy" right. (ENT's decontamination scenes being the most obvious offenders, but I think it applies to the other series as well.)
Yeah, I agree. The NuTrek movies various attempts have been similarly cringe enducing.
Having said that... when I read the thread title, and before I even clicked on the thread, I must admit the first thing that popped into my head was "Counterpoint".
I think it plays the angle very effectively, and much of that is down to Kate Mulgrew, who approaches the material with just the right mixture of determination and vulnerability. It's a subtle, yet absolutely spectacular, performance from the lead actress which completely sells it to the audience.
