Seven of Nine in my opinion is a terrible character

Okay, I’ve just rewatched the Bujold screentest.
She was a blank to me. Cold. Rarely looked at other actors. Didn’t use much facial expression or hands. Vocally disengaged.
Even did a speech to the wall, like she was reading from a teleprompter. Was there even makeup?

And then, Mulgrew. Say what you will about Captain Hepburn,
but she used all the tools of acting. Her face told a story, her eyes communicated, her vocal inflections correct with every word. Used her hands and body to amplify the scene. Lady’s in charge.

Would have been cool to see the other three actors’ screentests.
Does anyone know who they were?

Never thought about this before. Geez, it’s the Trek Women that drive me to VOY and that didn’t happen with TNG.

Tasha Yar, Troi, Crusher.....just didn’t move me like the VOY women.
Ro Laren, yes. I can watch Michelle Forbes all day, like Razor, BSG.

But all the VOY women characters are so watchable.

Gotta give Jeri Taylor some credit for that.

Jeri Taylor is a bit up and down in her writing.

I really enjoyed "Mosaic", the book about Janeway. The main story is excellent and the flashbacks on Janeway's life are interesting even if Janeway appears a bit wimpy sometimes.

"Pathways" is good, however the main story is a bit thin and predictable. The flashbacks on the main crewmembers past are interesting in most cases.

What I don't like is that almost all of the main characters seem to have some father complex in Taylor's books.

Lynx, those are good points but novels aren't considered canon. I'm pretty sure though that canonically Voyager was supposed to be her first long term deployment, or real "independent" command but certainly not her first ship.

Since "Mosaic" and "Pathways" were written by Jeri Taylor when she was a member of the writing staf, I would consider those books at least "semi-canon".

Most of the early Voyager books are easy to fit into the ongoing events on screen (see the Kes Website) for a review of those books and where the events fits into the Timeline). There are some minor contradictions but they can easily be skipped or ignored.
