Seth McFarlane wants to Reboot Trek on TV

Yup, saw it...yet another producer interested...JJ better do it after the movie while he can...this will eventually happen. I need to go find my post where I said a tv series would be on the air in 10-12 years after Enterprise. I'm thinking a TV series will happen in 2014 or early 2015....about 9-10 years after. :bolian:

RAMA

This reminds me of the time when Seth MacFarlane appeared on Enterprise.

^^MacFarlane also returned to Enterprise in season 4's Affliction. This time his character was named Ensign Rivers, and was now assigned to Columbia NX-02. Here's a clip of his scene in that episode.

As for MacFarlane doing a Star Trek series, I'm open to the idea. I'm sure he's capable of something more than the raunchy humour common to Family Guy, and he is a genuine fan with impressive Trek knowledge. Mind you, with three shows currently in production, and a fourth in development, I don't know where he'd find the time to do a Trek series.

I would definately prefer a MacFarlane Trek series over an Abrams one.

What are MacFarlane's chances of making this happen?

Not nearly as good as those of Abrams or anyone on his team who'd be willing to step up.

100,000 times greater than David Foster's.

Please, no. I'd rather just about anybody else but him. Thankfully after reading the article I see this was just idle talk and that he's not actively pitching a series.

"Hey Captain Fat-Doofus! Remember that time when we ended up on Vulcan with that Orion chick and Mr. T?" [Cue Cutaway]

Even an uber nerd has to bow down to the ultra nerd. Is there room on the head of a pin to write the Star Trek story? I'd rather take a Trek cruise. This guys toungue is forked not golden. It'd be a twisted wreck instead of just a wreck.

I'd love to see MacFarlane's take on Star Trek. He's a big fan of it all, he's very talented and he produces successful television. I'm looking forward to his version of The Flintstones.

The last thing the Franchise needs is someone who somehow thinks it's the exception to all the trends in public tastes and style that are part of succeeding at entertaining people.

Just ignore him. Most do.

As for the OP, I don't know how crazy I'd be about him producing anything live-action, but if he made an animated series that had more realistic-looking characters and non-humorous plots than Family Guy does, I'd watch it every week. His Star Wars spoofs looked fantastic as far as the ships and planets went (there was even one scene of a star destroyer that I almost believed was actual footage from the film!)

I'm not a Family Guy fan, I agree with Matt and Trey that the humor is insipid and cheap, but that has nothing to do with whether the guy can do Star Trek well. It's a good sign that McFarlane is involved in the Cosmos revival. A sci fi writer should like science after all. :)

I could be entirely wrong, but I remember hearing that they basically took the space scenes and "drew" over them which was why they looked so dead on.
