News Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville

I didn't want to start another thread, but I'm wondering what people want from The Orville Season 2?

The one thing I'd like to see from Season 2 is a loose serialised story arc. Something to give the show some focus. The Orville has problems trying to balance the comedy and drama. By giving the drama side something to aim for, it might fix that. I don't want a full season of one story, but more like The X-Files mytharc which was 1/4 of a season at most. This season being episodic is fine because of how short it was.

More than 13 episodes would also be good.

I think that everyone should leave Seth MacFarlane alone to do exactly what he wants with the show.

By "everyone" I mean Fox.

I think the show's just fine the way it is. I enjoy it every week. It's never tedious. Every episode has at least one or two little surprises that are a joy, whether it's a slightly odd turn of plot or a joke.

The show's got as much continuity as it ought to have. It has an ongoing exploration of the characters and their relationships, and there's not a big thing made about it.

Most episodes have a knd of sense of wonder about them - that "gosh wow" thing that shows like the original Twlight Zone or TOS Trek could manage and that skiffy TV and movie now reaches too hard for sophistication to bother with.

You know, fuck long story arcs. Just fuck them. Usually what they mean is that there are no hours that are good all on their own.

What would I like not to see again? I think the episode about Darulio tried too hard to be a real comedy and missed. The show works better as an adventure with some light humor.

FWIW, MacFarlane says he wants the show to be a short adventure movie every week. That's cool; no one else has a better idea that I've seen.

Yep he's found a good formula and chemistry for his crew. He should definitely stick with it and try to avoid meddlesome suits at all costs.

I agree with this 100%. On the other hand I am a Sci-Fi fan so I must go against that and say what should be done in season 2, anyways. To do otherwise it would be like asking a Vulcan to forgo logic or a Klingon not be violent. :)

1 we need more Kryden. He needs a job as well. I think he should be the new navigator on the bridge.

2 Another slug alien from Yaphets race who is a complete oposite of him or even more horny than he is.

3 A muscial episode and mirror universe episode.

Oh, please, no arcs. No arcs!

All they need to do is iron out the awkward humor inserts and add more inter-species sex scenes and they will be more than fine.

Whatever happens in S2, I just hope that those in charge at FOX sit back and let Seth do his thing, instead of interfering in any way. Knowing the past record of various networks, that may be too much to ask.

Hopefully Disney trying to buy parts of Fox will not impact The Orville. Supposedly Fox TV studios (which produces The Orville) is one of the properties that may get sold but not the Fox broadcast network.

Hadn't thought of that. I hope the Mouseketeer kiddie police don't take issue with some of the crew's off-duty recreational activities that have been seen on-screen. Part of the show's unique charm, IMO.

I made this prediction ages ago:

Fox will meddle in season 2, ensuring it has as much humour as the pre-release trailers implied.

(In other news, Orville finally starts this week in the UK! Can't wait!)

I just want more of what we got in Season 1.
As for people worried about Disney potentially interefereing in it's content, Disney subsidiaries have been releasing adult oriented content for decades, so I don't really see it being an issue. Hell, Disney (aka Miramax) released pretty much all of Quentin Taratino's movies, so I can't really see The Orville being an issue.
