News Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville

The one point in the trailer that sold me was his reaction to the time team. "Does it work on salads?"

That joke landed pretty well.

That was my favourite bit in the trailer too - it showed that Palicki has great timing and chemistry with MacFarlane.

Although it'll be interesting whether CBS consider imitation the sincerest form of flattery.
I think this is different enough that CBS can't really get that upset. If they weren't upset about Galaxy Quest, I don't see how they can be upset about this.

Yes, I will definitely watch it. It has a Quark(1977-78) and Galaxy Quest feel.

It actually kind of makes me wonder how meta it will end up being. Will it be more self-aware of itself like Galaxy Quest and Redshirts, or will it just go for being a straight Trek-like comedy. I suppose if you're doing a Trek comedy, it sort of does have to be meta for it to work.

I'm just looking forward to the fan-made technical manuals that will invariably be written on the content of this show. :D

The Orville seems to be the front-end of a Voyager and the rear end of the Andromeda, or possibly a White Star from B5.

Burning question - is the ship named after Orville Wright or Orville Redenbacher? It's MacFarlane we're talking about here - could go either way...

It was named after Orville Wright - I saw an interview with MacFarlane that said he was reading a biography of the Wright brothers when he was writing the pilot episode.
