Set blueprint exchange

@Lt. Washburn - Thank you - it can be quite a bit of work though to get the updates added, but it is much easier than the old database driven system. Going through the plans and figuring it all out is like a detective game really - for example from looking at the TMP airlock and sickbay blueprints, we know that both the Phase II briefing room and recreation rooms were built, even if we don't have photos.

I was talking with ABKUP25 on twitter and he pointed out the slight differences with the hand drawn cross-section and the Hyde park. He thinks the hand drawn is actually from ST the Experience and ST the Tour, and after seeing the photographs, I agree.
Bridge-console-profile.jpg

However we can still determine a cross-section. Looking at the Mirror Darkly auction sheet photos, with the paper size known (24" x 36"), we can get the height of the outer frame. We can then apply that to the cross section image and determine the dimensions.

Here we go with the first update

Site Features

We now have a search bar in the top right, however there are several things to remember
  • Its not google and will not be as robust
  • When there is more than one term, place within quotation marks, otherwise it will search each term individually
    • "Klingon D7" --> items with both Klingon and D7
    • Klingon D7 --> returns all Klingon items and all D7 items
  • Due to technical limitations of a previous version the archive, there are no apostrophes so "Jem'Hadar" becomes JemHadar. Going through all the files to add the missing apostrophes would be too much work

Phase II Bridge floor annotated

Folder: http://frogland.co.uk/set-archive/Set Blueprints/Phase II/Phase II bridge/index.html
I have annotated this blueprint for clarity as it gives us the dimensions of the helm, the outer platform, and the bridge diameter of 18'.
This has also been placed in the refit bridge folder due to the shared lineage.

This was a released product for the TMP, but the vast majority of the content is Phase II. It has the Phase II bridge control layouts, many of which match the TMP.
There is also a couple of pages with dimensions, and these have also been put in the Phase II bridge folder

I debated whether this was should be concept art or blueprint. As an orthographic view to be used to build, it makes it a blueprint in my opinion.

Maybe the Runabout cockpit? They had a lot of panels with a similar trapezoidal shape on that set.
I've been looking through screencaps and it does not seem to match any of the panels.

It's nitpicky, but the reason why I try to identify the exact panel to the sets with screencaps is because it gives a reference point for identifying measurements on the sets, that way those of us who try to recreate the sets can use the panels as a starting point in some cases.

(although its been 6 months since I've even opened blender as my new job has kept me busy.)

For this item:
the trapezoidal panel is the biobed monitor in Nemesis, however there are no dimensions listed in the auction

I wonder, has anyone here tried using smoked acrylic material for their 3D lcars panel recreations?

The effect of using the smoked acrylic is one of those things that's hard to achieve in real life but extremely easy in 3D, as there you have the ability to treat it all as an emissive material without the need of a backlit. There's thus no need to reproduce the actual material properties of the panel (that would be a lot more computationally intensive, and if you do things right the end result would be identical).

Having discussed LCARS a ton with Mike at work, the approach I use here on my fan-art has his "stamp of approval" as far as technique goes: apply a gradient over the texture itself, then the material gets a slight warp effect to simulate the imperfections in the plexi. He always comments how perfectly that reproduces the look.

So nice to hear you’re getting these kind of insights (not to mention the seal of approval) directly from the master himself. I haven’t watched the new Adam Savage video yet and don’t know if they go into any kind of detail about this, but I wish someone would interview Mike Okuda about how exactly he came up with the LCARS design. In terms of the design language they create and that’s been so influential both to the whole franchise but also to me personally as a designer. But then also about what the challenges were to create them from a prop and set design perspective.

You'll find the video answers some of your questions :)

Still working on sorting out the Propstore stuff, its just taking some time. Also there is one lot that's just a mass of concept art all photographed at once, and each photo is going to need to be cut up into sections.

In the meantime, here is a smaller blueprint update to the archive
