Seriously....what would you do if

I am a little concerned about this..even though it's not in my state yet. But what I do worry about is that we have a lot of Mexicans living in my town who go to-and from Mexico every so often to visit family. What would happen if they brought back that flu, give it to their kids, and instantly bring them to Kroger's, spreading germs that way?? It is something to be concerned about but I'm not necessarily panicked about it just yet. It will get worse before it gets better though. I'm more concerned about Mom than about myself..she has a heart condition plus pseriasis so her immune system is shot by all of this. I guess it depends on how healthy you are whether or not you survive it. It is kinda scary though.

WHO says confirmed flu cases total 331, 10 deaths
04:40 AM EDT
GENEVA (Reuters) - The World Health Organization said on Friday that as of 0600 GMT the number of officially confirmed cases of a new flu sweeping around the world was 331 in 11 countries, including 10 deaths.
The figures for what the WHO calls influenza A (H1N1), widely known as swine flu, include 109 confirmed cases with one death in the United States and 156 confirmed cases with nine deaths in Mexico, it said in a statement on its website.
Other countries with laboratory-confirmed cases are Austria (1), Canada (34), Germany (3), Israel (2), Netherlands (1), New Zealand (3), Spain (13), Switzerland (1) and United Kingdom (8).
Other estimates of infection are higher. For instance Mexico says up to 176 people have died there and the authorities have confirmed 12 deaths.

Sorry but this needed a bump. At the rate this thing is expanding, there probably be 100 deaths by the middle of the century.

I'd wonder whether I was dreaming, because the likelyhood of it actually escalating beyond a silly sensationlist news story is next to nothing.

One of my friends just got word that the flu arrived in Colorado (we're basically on the Wyoming/ Colorado border). People are panicing. I'm chuckling a little bit. I still don't think there's much to worry about.

There is really nothing you can do, unless you want to go off and live in the woods alone or seal yourself into some kind of airtight bomb shelter. Not viable options for the average person!

They're panicking? Seriously?

Like I posted, it seemed more a topic for discussing, not for freaking out about. And now it's being reported that things aren't looking too bad.

If that's so, what contributed most to the panic, news stations? Politicians? Just 'normal' people panicking?

In the event of a serious pandemic, I'd hop in my car and head to my mother's place in Vermont. I can work remotely for a while, and it's more isolated than DC by a long shot.

Yeah, pretty much. To be honest, I'm not sure what's contributing to all of this... I probably haven't been paying as much attention as I should be. I just know that people are way more worried around here than they probably should be.
