Seriously, What Is So Special About Destiny?

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Destiny is supposed to be the ship. Dr. Rush thinks it is mankind's most important discovery since the Stargate itself. The aliens have been tracking the ship for several years with a fleet of ships attempting to take control of it,
and the Lucian Alliance is going to make an attempt to take it over by the end of the season.
But, why? Why are all these parties so interested in this ship? It's a run-down bucket literally falling apart, and it's from one of the Ancients' earlier eras. Atlantis likely has more advanced tech, not to mention a more up to date database.

Now we can write Dr. Rush off as insane. But what about the aliens? What the hell is so great about Destiny that they are putting so much effort into controlling it.
And why are the Lucian Alliance bothering? There must be some Ancient weapon or outpost laying around somewhere in the Milky Way that would be easier for them to obtain.
I just don't get why this ship is so special.

Well we, and the other forces known to SG-1 and Atlantis didn't know what they were going to find. In the same way the aliens don't know what their hoped for prize will be. Until Young and Scott started killing them all it cost them was bullets as they tried to defeat Destiny's passive defense. Now the aliens either want revenge or the pain has not been enough to give up the dream they share with Dr Rush. :cardie:

The infomation carried in it's database as it traveled from galaxy to galaxy, is thus far, the only 'treasure' that makes it special from an outsiders point of view. The SGC now possesses Atlantis and an Asgard core filled with presumably, everything the Asgard knew about the Ancients before the alliance dissolved, and their own history, culture and advancements made since. While Destiny is old and falling apart, it's lasted all these millions of years out there, can recharge by diving into a sun, and may have more 'down to earth' technology that might be easier for our guys to figure out, as opposed to the more magical technology the Ancients developed later on.
So that sort of makes it more special than it's description sounds.

Well Rush is interested in ascension and you can't get that from the Asgard database.

And just for the record Shep. was either a Major or a Col. he was never a Commander. ;)

To the aliens chasing Destiny, the tech is still very, very advanced from their's.

And to the humans or the Alliance, it's not just the database on 100's or perhaps 1000's of galaxies - and countless worlds - (remember there are seeder ships as well - possibly going out in multiple directions)...but it's access to a much vaster Stargate network that spans not just one or two galaxies, but spans a huge chunk of the *known universe*...

(Not to mention access to incredibly distant regions of space...)

Sometimes after a long struggle you find out that the Prize is just you having kids and then you die. The ship is a prize sort of like that.

The real answer is that we don't know. I don't think they have even been able to access some areas of the ship yet.

They certainly have very little control over it. We don't know what the ship might be carrying, whether it's tech, cargo, information, etc. We also really know very little about the ship's true capabilities. Until they can gain more control and a deeper understanding of the Destiny, we can only speculate.

As to why Rush thinks it is important..well maybe he knows more than he has let on. Seems likely.

It could be as simple as it being an important stepping stone between Earth's current level of technology and the Ancient technology Earth has access to on Atlantis.

Hopefully... They're going to finally figure out HOW TO BUILD FREAKING STARGATES

I mean... Seriously

Atlantis had Zero building/fabrication labs for ZPMs, Puddlejumpers, Drones, Kenos (their version of a MALP) or Stargates themselves?

Also, why didn't Atlantis have Keno's or their like? They had their own version of an Iris...

Does Destiny have an Iris?

I'm enjoying the show, but come on, it's like there are more holes in our understanding than there are in the ship at this point.

Destiny doesn't seem to have an iris, and one can only assume kinos became primitive technology by the time Atlantis was built.

That always disappointed me. They have the entire city of Atlantis and can access the computers and they can't build a gate or a puddlejumper or manufacture anything!
