If you're in Hall H that is.

Everyone else (in the UK anyway) gets to complain that they don't pay their License Fee to let a bunch of bloody Yanks get special treatment.

Well that is what Comic-Con is for these days. People spend a lot of money to go internationally. Also Hollywood people that are known to spend lots of money on things they like. Be it unfair to the British that pay their fee, but you all pay our fee regardless if Doctor Who is on TV or not. And given that was for The Day of the Doctor (what became an international released movie that broke records), it would make sense to show that to the larger international audiance. That the BBC didn't also show you is the BBC's fault.

For the present, when they set precident, so they run with it because it is expected. And it draws in a lot of money. Money they wouldn't get otherwise, while the Fee they will get anyway from the British people via the BBC.

Is Doctor Who being partially financed by BBC America (AMC Networks) now? I know Orphan Black is backed that way; can't recall on The Doctor.

BBC America paid for the American filming during Matt Smith's era. I don't recall if they were credited as coproducers on those episodes. I know that a few years ago they were interested in becoming full coproducers on the series; depending on what the Tories do with the BBC and its funding, it's likely that Doctor Who would become financed out of BBC America (or BBC Worldwide more generally).

BBC America also pays for the SDCC trips. They paid for the creation of the "Day of the Doctor" trailer that Moffat didn't want anyone to leak onto the Internet.
