Series 9 Set Reports Thread (SPOILERS)

... or Mark IV, Sarah Jane Smith's one? If so, will the series aknowledge Sladen's passing in some way? (I know her husband made a guest appearence in Deep Breath as the tramp).

I really hope not. I'd like to think she's still back on Earth fighting the bad guys with her kids.

I seem to recall Moffat once saying he had no intention of killing off Sarah Jane. Which is just as well, considering knowing him, he'd probably find a way to undo it anyway. *cough*CyberBrig*cough*

Well if the 12th Doctor is going to set off looking for Gallifrey, finding a K-9 that was last seen on Gallifrey (or E-Space) could be a clue for him. Having it be the one left with Leela would mean the one last seen on Gallifrey (officially anyway). While finding the one that was with Romana would mean E-Space (though probably also Gallifrey). Either option could point to where Gallifrey went. It is in another dimention after all.

Ok im New to doc who. So far only watched series 1-4 and half the specials. But done my homework on k-9. If done right the return of k-9 would be extra cool. The search for gallifrey? Sounds like a good series.

Clara is supposed to leave mid-series right? Maybe Luke and K9 will be the new companions? That would be cool!

I thought Jenna was contracted for the whole of series 9?

Luke and K9 are not going to be the new companions.

How many K-9s are there? The original builder gave him to the Doctor (I think Leela insisted). I could be misremembering that. Could more have been built aside from the ones the Doctor built after leaving the first one with Leela? I know that K-9 worked well in terms of the actors rehearsing, but not as well with the metal dog on set.

We have the original one the Fourth Doctor and Leela picked up (was it around the 49th century?) on an Earth outpost. (Last seen on Gallifrey, probably a long time before the Time War)

The second one the Fourth Doctor built alone and eventually gave to Romana II when she stayed in E-space. (Last seen in E-space, though assumed to have returned to Galliffrey with Romana at some point prior to the Time War)

Then there is a third that somehow ended up as a gift to Sarah Jane Smith. It is assumed it was from the Fourth Doctor. (This one is known to be destroyed) - Could this have been the first one the Doctor collected after Leela died (assuming she died of old age at some point on Gallifrey).

Then the fourth (probably) built by the Tenth Doctor to replace the the third one as a second parting gift for Sarah Jane Smith. (Last seen active with Luke Smith)

K9 Mark III (SarahJane's first K9, that was destroyed) was indeed given to her by the Doctor. This was shown in a Spin-off attempt back in the Classic days, called K9 and Company. You can watch it on Youtube

K9 and Company

Many don't think it's a particularly great story, but, I have an affection for it, and it's more SarahJane, so, it's definitely worth at least checking out. The theme song is an absolute crime against the ears, don't hold that against the episode, though

Romana II returned from E-Space a LONG time before the Time War.

According to non-televised material.
But, on the other hand, the NuShow has told us repeatedly The Doctor is the last of The Timelords (implying all the good ones, as well as some bad, returned to Gallifrey to fight in the Time War [or met the fate shown in The Doctor's Wife])

And since the Paul McGann Shada, has been Flash Animated, that comes pretty close, to me, to canonizing Romana as Lord President

Maybe the doctor isn't the last of the time lords? K9 would be cool f an episode or 2. Exploring the time war that wiped out the time lords would be interesting in series 9. Still love the mystery of it all though. Hope Clara is contracted for the whole series 9. If she gots to go that would make a good Christmas episode.

They needs to use some underused or new villains this series. Since the revival they been doing such a good job and been very good and entertaining every year. Love all the surprises and twists so far each year.

The biggest lose thread for me is still how the Master got out the Time War and off Gallifrey.
That story would probably be key in finding the planet.

And it would be a shame not to bring Missy back.

So I hope they adress that in the upcoming season. :)

I don't follow the non-televised stuff. But, is it a case of being validated by the show. Or simply not being contradicted by the show? These are very different cases.

And, things like the looms have been contradicted I believe.

Well, only Paul McGann's work as The Eighth Doctor with Big Finish has been "validated." With that in mind, it can be said that the fate of Romana (along with the fates of Leela and both K-9's) have been validated considering his interactions with her (and the others) on Gallifrey. That being said, we still don't know what their current situation is. Personally, I still subscribe to the idea that Romana, Leela, and others (spoilers) fled to E-Space during the Time War.

Regarding Gallifrey still in the time war, it's actually in another dimension as revealed in Day of the Doctor. The Daleks did not follow them. Granted, there is End Of Time with Gallifrey coming back 'during' the time war and presumabely the Daleks would've come back as well (along with the other stuff the Tenth Doctor described).

There is a bit of dialogue in Day that infers that the High Council plan seen in EOT had already happened and Gallifrey returned to the time lock/war, something like "Their plans have already failed" if I recall.

So Gallifrey's kind of by itself now, but part of the plot of Time Of The Doctor was that if they did return the Daleks, Cybermen etc. would be waiting for them.

Also regarding Romana's fate, didn't Lalla Ward do a voiceover for the latest version of the Doctor Who exhibit in Britain?
