Series 8 will be darker, more like Classic Who

Ah, OK cool, just didn't want you misunderstanding, trying it out, and then being disappointed, because it was a late (The last of the cycle) Incarnation

Oh, and Lonemagpie, sorry for skipping straight past your post. I'm going to check on availability of The Dark Path (Hopefully it's not as impossible to get as Lungbarrow :( ), it sounds fascinating, thanks.

ETA: Not quite as bad as Lungbarrow (Over $100 USD), but, still about half that ($46 was the lowest I found on Amazon Marketplace; $50 USD on Ebay, + International shipping) :(

Ok. :) I read it up on Wikipedia, it sounds good. :)
No he isn't, and yes it is, respectively.

I thought it was the Delgado Master in the book as he was on the front cover, and Delgado is the 13th incarnation.

It's a bit more complex than that.

Trust me, I know.

Ok, I'll trust you on that. ;)

Bloody hell...
Yea, I don't know if anyone ever gets to sell the out of print books for those unreasonable prices, but, they sure make sure you can't get one without paying them

Write to Random House/BBC Books and ask for an ebook release...

Look, the point I tried to make was, why keep showing a Master thats post-Delgado, and not one who was pre-Delgado. I really like the idea of Capaldi, the first of a new line of Doctors, meeting the First Master (for him, again), and go from there. It'd be different from the norm, and for the Master there'd be no baggage and no history needed to remember or accumulate. A far more interesting approach - especially for a time-travelling show.

I think it would be kind of interesting to do a flashback episode that just focuses on the Master's backstory. Have it be one of the Doctor-lite episodes. Then it can perhaps be a prelude to a bigger Master 2-parter later on in the season (kinda like "Mission to the Unknown" teasing "The Daleks' Master Plan").

I mean, how likely is it that the Master has crossed paths with the Doctor since his 12th incarnation (or 11th, as I count the War Chief as that), but not at all PRIOR to then?

How canon is it that Delgado was the last Master before the crispy version? How do we know there weren't a bunch of other regenerations between Delgado's last appearance in "Frontier in Space" and the debut of the crispy version in "The Deadly Assassin"?

I'm so torn about the War Chief. Part of me likes the idea that he is the Master, particularly since the similarities seem so obvious. But at the same time, Terrance Dicks (who created both the War Chief & the Master) showed us a very different fate for what happened to the War Chief in the novel "Timewyrm: Exodus."

Thats a good point. But as far as we know, it was Delgado, then the Big Eyed Master.

I choose to openly ignore the novels in that regard, because I also like the idea that the War Chief was the Master, who was, like the Doctor, hiding from the Time Lords. Mainly because I dig the idea that the Second Doctor met him on-screen, even if only for once - and again, to have an earlier Master than Delgado on a story.

Conversely, I prefer the idea that the Master and the War Chief are two entirely different Time Lords because to make them the same character smacks of fanwank and "small universe syndrome."

An excellent idea. :) Or maybe it could be a minisode as they're becoming so successful, but I doubt 7 minutes would do it justice.

Its Doctor Who, for crying out loud. Fanwank is part of what drives NuWho, let alone the Moffat era.

When I first saw The War Games, before having such a complete picture of Classic Who, I viewed The War Chief as an earlier Master :alienblush:
