Series 5 - Set reports and spoilers thread

Might as well start one, now that filming has begun.

The usual set-reports crew are reporting Alex Kingston is on set, with blonde hair and a long black dress; and The Sun appear to have missed that fact in their report on filming (first picture in the slide show).

Oh, and they're filming at Bad Wolf Bay (well, the same part of the Welsh coast used for that).

ETA - The Sun have probably been watching the forums, as they've added some new pictures of Alex to their slideshow, showing the long dress etc.

Great idea for this thread, saves me wading through the one at Gallifreybase. Looking forward to seeing River Song back, I wonder how she is going to fit in?

I would have been fine if they'd left it as it was but since it seems River Song is indeed back, I hope it's a good story.

Well, well, well what an eventful morning! I was always dubious about a return to Bad Wolf Bay for the DW team, but lo and behold that is indeed where they were today, not anywhere that was actually used in Doomsday or Journeys End, but nevertheless this beach is turning into the most important location in Nu Who's history! We arrived at the beach and there was the TARDIS, not the TARDIS of recent times, but the Hartnell one. Retro. Back to basics. This is Moffat injecting the classic series right into the new series.

Anyhoodle, the TARDIS seems to have landed next to the crash landing of some sort of alien spaceship. Debris everywhere, all around and smoke is billowing all around. Thick smoke. Then Matt and Karen leave the TARDIS and have a look around. Flames around the TARDIS....River Song in a long black flowing dress seems to already be there. But she isn't unknown to the Doctor. He clearly recognises her as friendly and they have a chat. This scene was filmed over and over again.

On the behind the scenes front, both Karen and Matt were wonderful - polite, friendly, posing for photos, always smilie. I even got my picture with the new companion! Brilliant!

Right, I'm sorting out the pics, will be up soonish. :)

Reprinting StCoop spoilers:

OK, let's be clear up front, take the following with not a pinch of salt but several bucketloads and when it turns out to be total crap in eight months or so feel free to drag this thread back up and make fun of me.

Right now that's out of the way here we go...

5.1 Having nearly been destroyed at the end of Tennant's last episode, the TARDIS and the newly regenerated Doctor crashland in a small Scottish village where they both start to recuperate. Unfortunately their arrival also causes a handful of Sea Devils to be woken from a hibernating colony hidden offshore.

5.2 The Doctor and Amy set off in the newly "regenerated" TARDIS unaware that the Ship's rejuvination has set free a vicious race of creatures that the Doctor had trapped in there centuries before. (The creatures look like a weird tiger/monkey combination with TARDIS roundels imprinted on their skin.) What follows is basically "Aliens" in a TARDIS, with no guest cast appearing.

Remember believe any or all of the above at your own risk.

EDIT: Sorry, a bit of provenance for the above. in the past five years I've heard first-hand two spoilers that turned out to be correct; Catherine Tate's appearance at the very end of S2 and that the end of S4 would see the Doctor and all his companions flying the TARDIS together. The above comes from the same source.

From Voice From The Past on DWF:

Just to clarify what I have been told since end of April
The return of the original control room
The first episode centres around the Doctor and Tardis regrowing together, there is a an Amy plot which culminates in them both resolving a dilemma.
The photos we have seen this week are from episodes 4/5
The zygon threat is one episode
Rob Shearman is writing an episode, supposedly the Doctor Lite
The soundtracks will feature more sound effects and atmospherics
However, bearing in mind there are are two alternative routes for the series ending episodes 11, 12, 13 could be switched to a completely different season finale.
Apparently, don't just be expecting darkness/horror, from what I've been told Steven Moffat's scripts are very amusing as he is first and foremost a comedy writer.
All a bit vague, but that' as much as I know at the momentv but I will have further updates soonish.

I don't, and expect that there will be. It's just that with the exception of the 2008 Christmas special, the Special has been filmed at the start of the next series' production run. The 2005 Special was filmed with Series 2, the 2006 with Series 3, and the 2007 with Series 4. The only reason the 2008 Special was filmed with Series 4 was because they weren't returning to start filming a new series in the summer of 2008. I would guess the 2010 Special would be filmed with Series 6, although I suppose they could film it at the end of the Series 5 production run. I don't know why they would, unless the BBC has officially commissioned it already.

I was wondering about the fact we had a bit of a shock regeneration last year, and got me thinking - maybe the Eleventh Doctor will show up mid-way through the episode instead of right at the end. Then has to deal with the threat, and maybe even sacrifices the TARDIS to do it.

I do hope The Doctor regenerates alone this time, no companions to witness it. (Maybe Jack, because in the grand scheme of things I can see him coming back in a series or 2 anyway).

Awesome thread and pics. The Doctor's costume is growing on me. Karen Gillian is a hottie, and I'm loving me some returning River Song! I can't wait to see the regenerated TARDIS control room.

I don't foresee that happening because that would mean RTD writing for the new (Moffatt's) Doctor for a fair amount of screen time. You never know though.......

Do we know there will be a Doctor Lite episode? After all, they don't have to squeeze a Christmas special into the production schedule, much like the Eccleston season which also didn't have a Doctor Lite episode.
Season 1 didn't have one to the extent of "Love & Monsters" or "Blink", but "The Long Game" was designed to have less of the Doctor and Rose than your average episode.

Cool!

Still loving the return of the classic Police Box with the white window frames and St. John Ambulance sticker. :techman:

I did like the way in the TV Movie and the RTD era the Police Box departed slightly from the show, was subtely coloured and not too striking (colour and colour contrasts wise). They had a darker framing for the window and it was a darker blue.

This is just WHAM!... BLUE. AND. WHITE.

Hmmm....by "original" I wonder if they mean something along the lines of the awesome Hartnell one? The latter ones were so sparse that when I watched my first Hartnell ep. I was surprised that the control room wasn't quite as sparse as the later eps.

I hope they mix some old and new. There was a pic floating around of a retro style control room that also had several rooms visible in the background, including rooms to the left and right of the Tardis entrance. Really added to the mindfuck of the Tardis interior being bigger on the inside. Loved it.

I don't think a smaller, more claustrophobic control room will work as well after the large spacious one of recent years. I've grown to like the larger room. If they can integrate the two style somehow, I'll be happy.

I like the bigger TARDIS console room as well, but I think if we have a small console room, we might see some of the other rooms in the TARDIS
