Series 5 'Bible' spoilers

The series has gone out of it's way not to produce fanwanky nonsense based on the past of the original series.

You're kidding, me, right??? :wtf:

Oh dear Lord, please tell me you're kidding.

Let's see... Daleks & Davros, Cybermen and The Master; all known by the general audience (or their parents). Ditto K9 and Sarah-Jane and UNIT. The Sontarans less so but they were filling the "militeristic alien race" role that could have gone to an original creation with very few changes. The Autons might have counted if they had been anything other than window dressing (pun intended) to the real focus of the episode.

The closest the series has ever got was the Macra and they take up at most a minute or two in the episode.

After that you're down to random lines of dialogue; like referencing 'The Romans' in 'Fires Of Pompeii' or 'The Sensorites' in 'Planet Of The Ood'.

All a far cry from the non-stop deluge of continuity porn claimed in all of these supposed Specials / Series 5 "spoilers".

News from the very reliable spoiler sources Lee Mansfield and Eddie over at DWF. Apparently Steve Moffat has submitted a rough outline of his plans for Series 5 for consideration, feedback, planning etc., and details have been leaking out.

Patrick Stewart has been approached to play the Meddling Monk (whether in one of the later specials or Series 5 depends on his availability and willingness to accept).

Also, Daleks (Moff written 2-parter as eps 1 & 2), Ice Warriors and Zygons.

Celtic female companion, non-contemporary (probably past), non-London.

The enemy who will reveal themselves in the series denouement will have been in every episode of Series 5

Neil Gaiman is still on the cards. He's been asked to prepare two different ideas...And Paul Cornell is likely too

Confirmed for the specials: Sea Devils planned for one, and John Simm's magnificent return...

I see this snuck out (as planned).

The trick is to find the kernal of truth sanwiched between all those lies

Well, Gaiman has already given a nudge-nudge wink-wink non-confirmation that he's writing an episode. And it's not much of a stretch to say that Cornell will return.

One does have to admire the determination of the people involved to keep coming out with the rest of the rubbish though.

Doubts as to the validity of the 'spoilers' has been expressed on DWF. Although Lee Mansfield and Eddie are known to quite a few members of DWF, and are the kind of people who could get given spoilers, it's also possible that they are part (unwittingly or otherwise) of a disinformation campaign. We can only wait and see.

In the meantime, they are food for thought and fodder for discussion. :)

Thing is when they're coming out with stuff like CGI Myrka's and Patrick Stewart as a comic relief character who hasn't been seen in 42 years, them not being in on the joke would make them look pretty foolish.

You're making a leap to say the new series Monk will just be a "comic relief character". Simm's Master was hardly the moustache-twirling, cape-swiring camp supervillain of old was he?

If the Sea Devils do come back, a CGI Myrka makes complete sense to me.

I'm not saying there's much validity to all of these rumours, but I wouldn't rule them out.

Eddie is saying the new companion will be an Edwardian maid, first name (provisionally) of Lucy.

Upper Boat are apparently interested in casting Annabel Reid (http://www.annabelreid.com/) in the role.

And two days ago he was saying something completely different. (And wasn't that RTD's original plan for the post-Rose companion, anyway?)

Yeah what did happen to the Celtic companion? How strange...;) As Garak might say, if you're going to lie you at least have to be consistant about it.

And you are correct, RTD did consider a maid before settling on Martha (for some reason?!) although I thought she was going to be Victorian not Edwardian. (Sorry for pedanticness!)

Personally I want a companion from Earth's future. You know, like Zoe. And if she could look like Zoe, and dress like Zoe in futuristic catsuits that would be good too...

Alternatively an air hostess would be nice

Here's another corker from Imaginary Spoilerland!

Tom Baker is to return in Series 5 playing Edmund Trevithick* in an adaptation of Mark Gatiss DW novel "Nightshade".

*An old actor who once played the lead role in a popular SF series. (How very post-modern.)

ooh very Wormhole extreme!

You know that script idea / prose thingy that cropped up from our pal Eddie the other day? (The one that ends with THIS IS THE GAME OF RASSILON")

Someone compared it to some of Eddie's Fan Fiction writings and you'll be amazed to discover that they share the same writing style.

Oops!

Of course its rubbish script ides are never presented in such a way

That could work really well, but I fear Tom would just be too Tomish to pull it off. It's a nice story from Gatiss, and ripe for adaption. The original was more obviously a nod to Quatermass than Doctor Who.

What's inconsistent about it? You can be both an Edwardian maid and celtic you know! Annabel Reid is Scottish.

Celt does imply someone from a lot further back than the start of the 20th century, when people from Scotland would (amazingly enough) be calling themselves Scottish.

Anyway given that Eddie has been passing off his own fan fiction as writings from RTD or Moffatt; it's hard to take anything he says seriously.

'Celt' might, but celtic is in common usage today, especially in phrases such as 'the celtic fringe'. People from Scotland might call themselves Scottish; just as people from Wales would call themselves Welsh; from Ireland, Irish; and from the Isle of Man, Manx; but they'd all be celtic. In a British context, it basically means someone non-English (depending on how you regard the Cornish).

Whether true or not, it doesn't alter the fact that there is no inconsistency between the new companion being celtic and an Edwardian maid.

Eddie the "Spoiler King" in full meltdown mode.

http://edys-blog.blogspot.com/2008/10/its-shame.html

Full marks to him though for coming up with a get-out clause for explaining why none of his spoilers will actually turn out to be correct. Marks deducted for not concocting a reason why the so-called script idea from the Production Team was written in the style of his own bad fan fiction though.
