Series 11 News & Spoilers

I'm sure it's all just hot air and gossip, but if Chibnall did leave that would make something of a mockery of how much effort the BBC put into getting him; allowing him to rest after Broadchurch, persuading Moffat to keep going etc.

If (big if) this is true then I hope the BBC has a backup plan in terms of a replacement who can slot in easily.
*If* the rumor is correct, I'd actually worry about the immediate future of DW. We might be entering a time where they'd rest the series again. Wait until they find someone who is both suitable and interested. It sounds like that is difficult now--particularly with the constraints in place--regular series of 10 episodes.

Ultimately, that's what killed the classic series back in '89--the lack of interest among producers in the BBC to produce DW.

But, I'm not willing to believe the rumor quite yet!

The only thing leaving I hope is the Tardis set. To me it photographs so cramped and small. I hope it’s on it’s way out.

But Chibnall? Nah. He’s not leaving. It’s wishful thinking by disgruntled “fans” who don’t think the show is theirs anymore. (Not that it was, but seriously, if you don’t like it, it’s just a show. And if it’s more than a show to you... there’s a lot more going on than this post will cover)

The funny thing is, if you only read internet message boards or watched *shudder* YouTube videos you'd think the Series and Jodie had been massive failures hated by everyone.

As far as I can tell Chibnall got every single thing he asked the BBC for and was allowed to radically overhaul the series and in return he's made it a mainstream success again. The idea that he's about to chuck it all in makes no sense to me, at least for the reasons currently being stated.

Well Ecleston left. Maybe he wants to be known for more artsy and respectful stuff than "Doctor Who." I have not idea if he is a big sci-fi fan or was a fan of the show, growing up.

Hasn't the same thing been claimed every single year the show has aired since 2005?

I'll believe it when the BBC announces it and only when they announce it.

I suggest you change your criteria, for one reason only....they didn’t announce it in 89/90 and we all know how that turned out.

I've always wanted to see an adventure where the Doctor is actually up against a past/future version of him/herself, but the older version doesn't remember those events (hence why they could end up on different sides). The finale could be an opportunity to give us that, if the Doctor forgot an adventure - since this series has been showing her "no-one is 100% right or wrong" aspects, she might very well try to help an alien species against human interlopers one visit, and take the human side the next, depending which angle she's exposed to first - only figuring it out later, but in this case slowed down by the need to deal with the machinations of the very clever person leading the other side...

I think the novels did that with the fifth and the seventh...I want to say it was Cold Fusion, but it’s been a while.

Well, the backlash over no Xmas Who episode it seems has went worldwide, i had no idea so many were such big fans, but i remember the country wide McCoy riots of 1989 and i had hoped we would never see that happen again. lol

I remember when being a Who fan was likely to get shite kicked out of you in the playground. These days not so much it seems.

That leaving rumour is gathering steam.
Sigh.
I called this in Capaldis first or second season. Wilderness years 2 here we come. With much bigger outcry this time I expect. Jodie will be the new sylvester.

Could be wrong.
On the other hand, I haven’t exactly carried on watching this season...but I might catch up. I did on Capaldi in the end.

It's not going to go away for long even if it does go away just like Trek didn't really disappear all that long and that was a different era. Plus the show will at least be on next season for a half season if the rumors are true which means that can just retool and maybe do something that is more popular. Bring back Captain Jack and Missy and people would go crazy. Well the good crazy.

IF this is true and the show takes a rest again, I hope the BBC will consider doing "Best of.." and edit groups of 2 original series eps to fill the 1hr block and show Classic Who from 63-89. Re-exposing fans to the original series while giving the newer one a break isn't such a bad idea- we've all seen the new show to death at this point. There may me some "franchise fatigue" going on here. Happened to Trek in 2005 and look at that franchise now.

Bringing back Matt Smith would do it. With a film to lead in. But I have never been in the ‘bring Back ex doctor’ camp since they thought about it with Tom in the nineties. Moffat could have got away with it....for a while I thought Capaldi was a one season and revert doctor, just to do something timey wimey....but it’s overall not a good idea. It would bump the ratings though.

Edit to clarify....by ratings I mean the general public goodwill to it. We know what happened last time the red tops and public general opinion went against Who....Sylvester ended up making the papers for being nude onstage, and we eventually got the Doctor hanging out with an underage temple of love ‘handmaiden’ while a hairy arsed dude tried to cop a feel of Ace. Admittedly, none of this had as bad an effect as one might imagine.
