Series 11 News & Spoilers

Her nose crinkles. Her face scrunches. Her mouth twitches as she's about to speak...

Her mannerisms reminds me of an English person from the 1880's or maybe someone acting English but in an exaggerated way.

That song choice makes the trailer look like a fan made trailer after the series has finished airing.

Or something CW would release.

Actually Doctor Who on the CW would be interesting. It's got the young teen vibe with some companions.

Season 2 would have been a good choice to start with since it had Ten and Rose relationship.

Problem with a discussion thread like this about spoilers and trailers is that we think we are allowed to comment

I'm with the 'let's not do the amnesia routine again, please' folk. I forget (;)) who did it in the past but was it Capaldi? All I remember is how garbled and exhausting his first impression was.

The synopsis of Episode 2 sounds better.

Regards the trailer which doesn't show in the thread. Yay! I can understand her. Yeah I know I'm not supposed to say that but I have had difficulty in recent times with accents, but she gets a tick. Lots of energy and excitement though I have no idea what is going on. The trailer is pretty useless from that perspective but it looks like her new friends are entirely supportive.

You know what? Do us all a favor and skip the review thread for the first episode. We already know what you think, so it'll be a waste of time for everyone involved.

Sorry, you're on a public forum. If you only want people who agree with you, start a facebook page or something that you control.

We finally have a full trailer!

Well, that Doctor Who fan film sure looks ambitious if nothing else, although that shitty music will probably get the video copyright claimed. :borg:

Yeah, even ignoring the godawful music, that was a terrible trailer. Its drained the bit of optimism I had left, with the companions seeming to be pretty bad, everything being super generic and Whitaker's performance being probably the worst one I've seen from any official incarnation of The Doctor. She really seems like she's a TV presenter for a pre-school educational program, as opposed to being The Doctor. I know she's not a bad actor, she was decent in Broadchurch, but she's acting in this like she's talking to a 4 year old the whole time (plus, she is dressed like a kids TV host which doesn't help the impression).

I actually want Moffat back. I'll apologize for...60% of the things I said about Clara if we can get Moffat back. I'm willing to push that to 75% depending on if they don't care if I'm sincere or not. A burned out Moffat is apparently still 100x better then Chibnail. I shouldn't be surprised that the idiot who wrote Cyberwoman might be really shit at writing/producing for science fiction.

I feel sorry for Whitaker. its Colin Baker/Peter capaldi all over again, a good actor for the role of The Doctor screwed over by a terrible production team. I haven't been this disillusioned with Doctor Who since...ever. Not even after sitting through Series 7B and 8. This is definitely only getting watched out of a sense of duty and a lack of literally any other sci fi on TV that isn't just as bad if not worse. I have no hope left. If it can manage 10 minutes that are better then the worst of Moffat then I'll be shocked. Maybe having rock bottom expectations is a good thing. Anything not totally awful will seem like the best thing ever.

For the umpteenth time (not necessarily from me but people in general): It's not that you have dissenting opinion, it's that your opinion is based on very, very little. You countlessly judge an episode, a show, or film simply based on limited material (whether it's a synopsis, a two-minute trailer, general hunch) and then you blow your assumptions way out of proportion and well beyond the extreme.

And again. You've already judged the first episode based on very little. Why would anyone care to read what your opinion when you actually and begrudgingly watch it? Why?

kirk55555, I really hope you're wrong. You're sounding an awful lot like I imagine viewers sounded circa Sylvester McCoy's debut in the role. (And Bradley Walsh hasn't taken even a tenth of the crap I hear Bonnie Langford got.)

I don't post because I care if other people read my stuff. If I did, I'd just parrot what everyone else said so no one would get annoyed. I'm always posting about my own opinion, not trying to get someone to read anything. I'm just a person on the internet, I'm not writing articles. I'm not predicting what other people think, I'm saying what I think, and my track record of predicting what I'll think about something before seeing it is really, really high.

I don't think that I blow anything out of proportion, and I actually restrain my opinions, I certainly don't say anything "extreme". I've judged the entire Series 11 based on a lot of evidence, not just Episode 0 of Season 11. Its probably going to be the worst Series of NuWho from my perspective, to the point where I'd take Clara back if it meant not having to suffer through Series 11. You don't have to agree, but don't try to make me agree with you.

I actually loathe McCoy's Doctor post Delta and the Bannerman, and Bonnie Langford's Mel is the second worst companion in the franchise after Clara. If Michael Grade had cancelled the show after Season 24, I wouldn't have blamed him (he would have saved the show from Cartmel, at least). McCoy at least proved in his first few stories that he was a good Doctor before the 7th Doctor was turned into a complete villain, Whitaker isn't even getting a few episodes to show what she could be, she's screwed from episode 1.

Maybe it's time to move on to something you enjoy, something you are actually looking forward to. I seriously don't understand. If you don't enjoy it, think you really WON'T enjoy it, why bother? There is so much else going on, and some much that has happened, why not go and find something that brings you joy?

It's a serious question. Why spend so much time and resources on something you don't enjoy? Why not move on?

The new video looks good but I also hate the pop music. Then again weren't we having this issue with the teaser for the upcoming "Discovery" season as well? Seems like a modern day tv thing that everyone does.

You have a really good track record about being right with your predictions?
Well, maybe you are not predicting anything.

Perhaps you are priming yourself to no end and convince yourself so hard not to like it, that in the end you have no choice but to see what you fear.
It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Perhaps you should try for a while not to predict anything. Don‘t watch promotional material and stay away from production news,
It‘s hard with the internet, I know.

But concentrate on current stuff.
And then when the new stuff rolls around, just watch it without having a ready made opinion on it.

A good training for this would be to find stuff to watch you have never gotten around to. Let friends give you recommendations for that. Or go blindly into movie theaters.
Either let friends take you there without telling you about the film or watch Sneak Peeks. Many theaters around here do that regularly.

You might get surprised how positive everything will start to look.
If you then have issues, at least you can say it‘s an opinion based on these and those factual observations,

I'm ok with a little post regeneration amnesia, just so long as she doesn't spend half her first story asleep (I'm looking at you Tennant (and your father in law!))
This will be a much better place to have the Doctor sleep.

Rose and her mother knew the Doctor, so I don't even know why he was asleep then.

She could sleep all she wants now, and have her future companions argue where she's coming from and Who she is.

Christ I'd hate to see it if you let loose. So you've judged an entire season based on a lot of evidence? What evidence? We've had way less information that we usually have, so you're judging based on some photos and some snipped together in a trailer footage? Do you have any idea how insane that sounds (maybe you do, I still can't figure out if you're opinions are genuine or you're just trolling us all. I suspect it's the latter because you are bloody consistent with your hyperbole, but seriously, life's too short to watch a show you hate, even if it's to prove you were right, just find something else you enjoy and watch that, or as the old children's TV show that RTD worked on used to say "Why don't you just turn off the TV and go do something more interesting instead"?

Interesting video, the visual quality of the show does look stunning, and i am sure the trailer music is just that, trailer music, but they are doing a very good job keeping it all under wraps, no theme music or intro leaked, they must have hired another security guy for the front door. lol

Guys, can we please not turn this into another thread of people trying to help Kirk change his ways? It won't work. He is who he is. Just derive some amusement from his over the top posting style and let it go. I for one am awaiting this new season with a great deal of anticipation. It really looks like the Doctor is coming back swinging hard for the fences.

I absolutely cannot wait for the new season! Whitaker seems like she will be great. I'm very curious about Chibnall's new take on the show.

I do hope the show can get back to a regular schedule like it had in RTD's days.

Why should I "move on"? I outlasted Moffat's burn out run, Chibnail isn't driving me away. Hell, I watched all of Andrew Cartmel's run, and that man was the biggest hack to work on the show before Chibnail. I like Doctor Who too much to let an asshole like Chibnail drive me away. I kept watching Star Trek movies even after Star Trek 09 came out and was the single worst thing the franchise had ever done, and I was eventually rewarded with Star Trek Beyond, my third favorite Trek movie. In Doctor Who I outlasted Clara, and I'll outlast Chibnail trying to destroy the show. If The Zygon Invasion/Inversion, literally the worst (canon) thing in the franchise, didn't make me drop the show, Chibnail can't do it.

Even if we weren't in the dark ages of TV and there was literally any other show to watch, I'd still watch Doctor Who. As it is, there is no good sci fi being made on TV, and all the shows I watch/used to watch that are still getting made have either been destroyed by terrible writing (all the CW and MCU superhero shows), or are on break (The Gifted and Lucifer, the only two good ongoing genre shows I watch, and ST discovery, which is pretty mediocre but I'll still watch it when it comes back). So, even though I would never drop Doctor Who, I have nothing to watch outside of a few half hour shows anyway (Venture Bros which is almost over, some Anime and Japanese superhero stuff, etc). By the time Doctor Who starts in a few weeks, my entire TV schedule will be just Doctor Who, The Gifted, and a few random short shows. Not exactly a full schedule, so there would be nothing to drop Doctor Who for even if I was willing to (and I'm not).

Yeah, this is extremely ridiculous. i could comment on parts of it, like how there is literally nothing else good to watch anyway, or how I would never watch something without watching all the trailers and reading all the info, but its a waste of energy. I will say that the "self fulfilling prophecy" BS is hilarious, but that's the only thing I can say about this post when it comes to making any sense.

Oh, the last refuge of people who hate opposing opinions: "You're just trolling". People can have opposing opinions, you really should get used to it if you're going to be posting on the internet.

We have a lot of information. We know all the writers are basically unworthy of writing for the show (worse then even the people Moffat was hiring at the end), all the shown clips have been so bad from a writing and acting perspective they also make me want Moffat and his shit writers back, everything looks like a generic low budget sci fi the BBC decided to make and not Doctor Who, etc. Plus the whole amnesia thing, Whitaker apparently having lost her acting ability between Broadchurch and Doctor Who (and the show dressing her up like a presenter on a tv show for toddlers on top of it), its all just awful. But, again, if I can sit through Moffat at his worst, Chibnail won't beat me. I sat through Clara Oswald focused episodes, so even the terrible garbage they've shown doesn't scare me. It pisses me off, but that's it. Chibnail can't beat Moffat's lows. Unfortunately he also can't match Moffat's highs or even Moffat's average, but I'll still outlast him.

I've watched entire Sci Fi shows I loathed from episode 1 because I had nothing else to watch (like Nu Battlestar galactica, which was pretty shit from the beginning), so watching a show I'm already invested in from back when talented people worked on it is an easy decision, even if the show itself is now garbage and won't be getting fixed anytime soon.
