Series 11 News & Spoilers

Don't do this. Next time's an infraction.
An infraction for just giving my opinion?

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not racist, against the civil rights movement etc., my beef is simply how many times politics has been rammed down Doctor Who's throat lately, and just the fact that political agendas are becoming more and more apparent on the show signals that the writers will handle it in a soppy SJW manner. Judging from how writers have dealt with things before, especially in the Moffat era, it looks like an episode if dedicated to this will be rather soppy, I can't really see any other angle they could do it from. Note my threshold for soppier episodes seems to be much higher than most people on this server, they just don't do it for me personally.

So, we're back to having historical celebrities, are we?

They're more likely going to rake in more general audiences than having a bunch of fake characters set in an otherwise authentic setting.

Dare I hope for a pure historical?

It'd be nice. I'm intrigued as well. As long as they don't start pandering, the show is a lot better than that. Or should be.

Oh, I'm not complaining. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't there been a lack of actual historical people in the Moffat era? Season 5 had Churchill and Van Gogh, Churchill returned in season 6 as did Charles Dickens and Queen Elizabeth I in Day of the Doctor. Was that it?

Sci fi at its best was always political. It was at its best when it challenged norms.

This story is pushing the idea of a "secret" episode in S11 citing the "more than 11 hours of new content in Autumn 2018" statement.

If you do the math, you’ll realize that the whole of season 11 only equates to about 8 and 1/2 hours, which leaves 2 and 1/2 half hours unaccounted for. Obviously, you can probably add the annual hour long Christmas special to that total, but there’s still 1 and 1/2 half hours left to pin down

We can only hope. 8.3 hours for 10 episodes @ 50m each, plus even 60m for an x-mas special adds up to only 9.3 hours. That potentially leaves 2+ hours going by the "more than 11 hours..." thing.

Now I'm thinking about the people who thought (and expected) there was a secret episode of Sherlock Series 4. I don't expect a secret episode of Doctor Who based solely on marketing copy written for a trade journal.

Why must everyone online be so literal? Hyperbole and sloppy miswording have been things since time immemorial. Is it really so hard to accept that "eleven hours" just meant eleven episodes? Besides, how the hell can a "secret episode" even happen, anyway? The damn thing needs to be scheduled, that sure as hell ain't going to be done in secret. Or do people actually believe when BBC releases their TV schedules two weeks in advance, there's going to be a blank spot saying "Secret" that a surprise episode of Doctor Who is going to air?

While I'm not a fan of pure historicals in DW, this would seem like an interesting use of it. I'd be shocked if Chibnall fell into the trap of the Doctor inspiring Rosa. That's got to be an obvious one to avoid.

I also wonder if the Rosa Park's story might be a subplot that reinforces the main story. Kind of like how in Remembrance of the Daleks, real racial issues were shown/addressed and they reinforced the main plot.

In the case of Sherlock, some fans had worked themselves into a lather believing that Apple Tree Yard was literally a code name to cover up that it was really Sherlock, and then they were disappointed when it wasn't. Fans will see what they want to see.

Statements like "soppy SJW" are literally trolling; Doctor Who, from the very first episode, has had social justice at its core.

It's essentially eleven hour long episodes - ten plus Xmas - if we apply Occam's Razor. Most ono-UK broadcasters give it an hour-long slot, and the first episode is apparently 60 minutes, and rumour has it the last is extended as well, so...

Jodie Whittaker made sure she was paid the same amount as Peter Capaldi.

While I'm thrilled Whittaker is paid the same as Capaldi, it's a shame that was something she had to make sure happened. Baby steps, I suppose.

Is it? I mean you could argue that Capaldi is a bigger name (or at least was) Didn't Matt get paid less than Tennant?

Well, the BBC got into some shit last year, when the top salaries were revealed for it's stars, broadcasters and anchors.

Now, we know equal pay for equal work, but I think we can all agree, that the top earners bring more to the BBC (audience, exposure, ratings) than people at the bottom.

However, the nuances of the wage gap aren't dissected or discussed. Not when you have salacious headlines that cry discrimination at the "progressive" BBC.

After the salary debacle, the BBC head said they would accelerate making things more equal.

It's all a big mess. If Maisie Williams was co-starring in a film across from Tom Cruise. I don't think anyone would expect her to be paid the same as him. Likewise, if Adam Driver was co-starring in a film across from Jennifer Lawrence. I don't think anyone would expect JLaw to not be the top billed actor.
