Serene Branson's 'reporting' at the Grammys

^She wasn't- she was checked out by paramedics and supposedly is "fine" now. I think she should have gone to the hospital, though. You just can't take chances when there's even the slightest possiblity of a stroke.

I don't think people should be laughing at her. She may have had a reaction to medication, or some other cause.

They insist she didn't have a stroke, and that it was okay to laugh. I have a problem with that myself, since as you say, it could have been a reaction to medication or anything. It's obvious what happened was unwanted, and ruling out a stroke doesn't mean it's okay to laugh at something that may be of concern for her health.

That must be horrible to completely lose control of yourself like that. The mind is a very delicate thing.

I find that video to be terribly upsetting. She looks terrified. I hope she takes the advice of just about everyone on the planet and sees a neurologist right away. That sure looks like a mini-stroke to me. But then again, i'm not a doctor. I only play one on tv.

It reminded me of an episode I had when I was a kid. Out of the blue one afternoon I'd woken up in a panic. My speech was all mixed up, like a wordpuzzle or something like that. I had a pounding migraine headache (which as a side effect has remained with me ever since) I couldn't remember how to do anything. I was learning how to play piano at the time and had developed pretty quickly but I couldn't play at all when this happened (and haven't been able to play ever since). My mom was out with my brother and she took me to the hospital when they came home.

It got worse at the hospital. I was hysterical and crying and on such an adrenaline rush that it took six orderlies to hold me down and I snapped two needles (they were trying to sedate me). Eventually they managed to sedate me and after eight hours being out I woke up and everything was fine again with no explanation. My parents explained to me when we got home the next day that the doctors thought I was going to die when I was going nuts and couldn't diagnose me. They never were able to determine what I was going through. Like I said...the migraines have been a side effect ever since. I wonder if Serene went through something like this but to a lesser degree?

^ without getting into a specific personal diagnosis, it's not all that rare to have that with severe migrane, where the migraine is associated with focal or even global neurological deficits.

Again, without actually trying to diagnose the reporter's condition, I'd say it was pretty clearly specifically neurological in origin, rather than an intoxication or other effect. If it were me having had it, I'd at least want some cranial imaging and some bloodwork to rule anything nasty out.

When I saw the video, I immediately recognized what was happening to her.

The latest news about Serene Branson. She apparently had a TIA or similar event. Why anyone would laugh about this is beyond me. I take care of my mother, who is a stroke victim. Mom lay there for 5 1/2 hours before anyone noticed her condition (at the time she was living with my sister). Had anyone NOT been drunk or high, and Mom been given immediate treatment, she would be fully functional today.

^^ Ya.. Scary stuff.. I hope she recovers quickly.. I had a co-worker who suffered a series of very small strokes while out shooting some stories one day.. He shrugged it off as having some kind of bug.. When he got back to the newsroom and was talking gibberish, we called 911.. He was out for quite a bit after that, but made a full recovery..

Yep. I used to get migraines so severe they'd affect my speech- had to go to the emergency room once to make sure I hadn't had a stroke. I was 15 at the time...

Just heard last night that it was a migraine. I was really relieved to hear the good news!

My 17 yr old daughter has had migraines since she was 6 (according to her neurologist, most people that have migraines got them STARTING at that early age.)

She gets them pretty bad....nausea, vomiting, has to be in a dark room.....you can't even touch her she gets so sensitive! Thankfully she has never had one like Serene's. I think if she (my daughter) starting babbling like that i'd have a stroke of my own!
