September Writing Challenge: "Stars' Fall"

Throughout the multiverse, there are as many similarities as there are differences. There is, however, at least one constant: a legend, found on every world, known amongst every culture, passed down through the ages by wise ones to eager youth. This is the legend of the time when the sky touched the ground, and for one glorious moment, heaven and earth were joined. The legend speaks also of the place where this happened, a place that many have quested for but few have seen, a place of power and great significance.

The telling of the legend varies from world to world, culture to culture, and though the languages differ wildly, in each telling of the legend, the place has the same name.

Stars' Fall.

The challenge this month is to describe that event, the time when the stars fell to earth. It could be a first contact, or a spatial or temporal anomaly; however you choose to tell of it, the event had a far-reaching impact on the world, and it's up to you to describe the event and its impact, and/or as well as the place where it happened.

So, the Rules:

  • Word count- 5000 to 8000 words, a little under or a little over is OK.
  • Any Trek era, canon or your own 'verse.
  • No crossovers please, let's keep this straight-up Trek.
  • Somewhere in the story you must at least mention a place called "Stars' Fall", and if you choose not to feature the place in your story, at least tell us how the legends describe it. (EDIT- in response to a question, the place does not have to be literally named Stars' Fall; "Stars' Fall" can be the colloquial name, or the name given in legend, if the true name of the place is unknown)
  • Deadline for entries is midnight (US Eastern standard time) September 28th, with judging to take place from Sept. 29th to October 1st.
Pose any questions here or drop me a PM. Without further ado, then, have at it!

We'll have to see if I can make the word count in time, but this is the kind of challenge that sparks ideas... :D

I have an idea, too, but must first check if it is possible at all.

And a question: would a natural disaster related to outer space count as falling within the theme of the challenge, or it's too far from it?

Could you be a little more specific? Drop me a PM if you'd rather not go into too much detail in 'open forum.'

I have a crazy cool idea for this. I'm... not quite sure if the timeline I have in mind works out, but hey, as long as it's Trek, right?

edit: Aw, the timeline really doesn't work. Unless I ignore it. Which I may.

^You could set it in an alternate timeline. ;)

As for me...hmm....

You know--I just might have something. It's an eerie coincidence, but...my universe establishes that a certain beloved character's first name means "Evening Star".... (Reader's of my magnum opus, "A Rendezvous With Destiny", know what I'm talking about.)

Perhaps the legend behind the star in question...?

I'll see if I can't whip something up.

^As long as the story and place fit the challenge criteria, go for it.

Three days left to post entries!

A story about the 'Frankenstein Fleet'-kitbashed (Nairobi-Class Tactical Cruiser) U.S.S. Everest. The Everest is appointed to mopping up after the war, but is suddenly struck and destroyed as a result of a sneak attack by angry Tzinkethi. Fleeing a ship counting down to self-destruct, they're forced to make some distance between them and their old home.

Captain Elizabeth Harris and her crew are momentarily stranded on a strange world near Cardassia. They're certainly not alone.
