Sell me on... Voyager novels

Dark Matters trilogy - A sequal, another Voyager episode I liked, hey, there weren't that many so when book came out that followed them up I read them. Totally didn't get into it. Some parts I needed to force my way through. I just don't get into stories where the fate of the entire galaxy is at stake. And I never figured out all that happaned with out screwing up the time lines...

Actually, I really liked that trilogy. "Eye of the Needle" is one of my favourite VOY-episodes, and I always wanted to read a continuation.

Thanks for the kind words, Ronnie and Lynx. As I recall, THE BLACK SHORE was my first solo Trek novel, after a couple of collaborations, so I'm proud of that one. (Although, truth to tell, my girlfriend did a lot of unpaid editing on that book and helped out with the plot.)

So far the only Voyager books I've read are the String Theory trilogy, which I really liked overall. While I do agree that the third one wasn't as good as the others, I thought they were good enough to cancel out the last one. I also own Homecoming, the first Dark Matters book, and Distant Shores, but out of all of those, I've only read a few chapters of Homecoming.

Glad you liked the Q books. Alas, I only wrote the one VOYAGER novel, but who knows? I wouldn't mind tackling Seven of Nine one of these days, since she wasn't on the scene when I wrote THE BLACK SHORE (which is probably one of the last of the Kes-centric novels).

Glad to know I'm not the only one who liked The Murdered Sun! I second the recommendation for Echoes, as well. Escape was also fun in a weird way, despite being a VERY early effort.

(And I think these books must have something very special to them, considering that I am most decidedly NOT a Voyager fan.)

That's right. "Marooned", which was published shortly after "The Black Shore" had Kes as the main character. She also appeared in "Echoes" and "Pathways" and in later years she has appeared in the Dark Matters" trilogy and the "String Theory" books.

But I must stress that my affection for "The Black Shore" and "Marooned" isn't only because the importance of Kes in those stories, it's also because ALL the main characters have prominent roles in those books.

Yeah, your red herring. Note that I say "Not a single VOYAGER book has EVER killed off a major (TV) character." The death you allude to happened in a TNG book, not a Voyager book.

Since this thread specifically asked about Voyager novels, I thought your reference to an event depicted in a TNG book was an attempt to derail the conversation, that's all.

^ Since AuntKate has admitted that she hasn't gone into those threads, she might not have been aware of the fact that Janeway's death occured in a TNG novel, and would assume--naturally enough, I think--that the series lead was killed in a book of said series, rather than as a cameo appearance in another crew's adventures.

That said, I don't want to read ANY Trek novel in which ANY major character dies. Well, unless it's set far enough into the future that they die of old age. So I'm glad to know which TNG novel to avoid.

I should have guessed that there would be quite a few other Kates out there, either because of Janeway or because "Kate" is one of their nicknames, too, but I didn't. So there you go.
