Sela

Thing is, where you see a problem, I see Andreas Katsulas. Promote Tomalak a notch or two and put him in charge of 'nefarious Romulan schemes unit'; and he'd fit in nicely with Sela's role. Yeah it's a cheat having a major Romulan player like that, but the Klingon Empire benefited from having Gowron and the Cardassians would benefit similarly in DS9 with Dukat. It makes the world smaller but it makes the drama more, well, interesting.

OK, not a problem as long as it's clear that Tomalak's been promoted and/or reassigned to heading up the BMF (Bureau of Messin' with the Feds? ;)) and won't necessarily be the face on the viewscreen every time a Bird of Prey shows up.

Even so, there were more Klingons running around TNG than Gowron, and we did deal with different Cardassians from time to time, so why not more than one Rommie? Tomalak could be promoted and start doing homeworld stuff like "Unification", but then we'd need a new Rom to run the warbirds that were always getting in Picard's face.

You all keep suggesting Sela instead of Shinzon. I propose instead Sela realize just how out of touch with reality she is, first backing the wrong horse, then realizing what she's done, and decide to stand with Picard against Shinzon, instead of the thankless role Dina Meyer got. I don't even remember her character's name.

I believe the name you seek is Donatra.

I respectfully disagree. I liked Donatra and Sela, but if Sela was the Romulan who stood with Picard it would have seemed that it was because she was half-human. Donatra sided with Picard (sort of, though probably for selfish reasons) in spite of the long history between the Empire and the Federation and she was a full-blooded Romulan. To me that's a more dramatic story than a half-human deciding she wants to side with the humans after all.
However, I could see Sela allying herself with Picard just as a means to an end, using him to get rid of Shinzon in a bid to seize power for herself.

Bringing Sela back for Nemesis would also have managed to help be a bit of a bookend - this cast was all here for the first episode, they're all here for the final movie. They had Wil Wheaton cameo....

In Nemesis?

I must have completely missed that. Where at in the movie?

No, you can get a glimpse of him during the toast, but he has no lines. No attention is drawn to him, so he is easily missed.

Agreed, if TNG was more "arced" it would've been interesting to see Sela reconnect with her human side and even defect back into the Federation, and even brought us back an older Tasha. (Yes, Sela says Tasha died but she's Romulan so who knows if she was telling the truth.)
Yes I think this too. Her character had a lot of potential but sadly missed opportunities all. Here's a cool twist and a cool background but oops let's not capitalise on it with any follow up or emotional drama to feed upon it. For such reasons no wonder a part in Nemesis would have worked as suggested.
