Seeking Miranda-class Master Systems Display

Trying not to re-invent the wheel, I'm looking for an MSD of the Miranda class. I'm working on a Dominion War plog and my character serves aboard the USS ShirKahr. I've purchased plans from Mike Rupprecht and will be creating an MSD based on those, but if someone's already done it and willing to let me use them, it would save me a lot of time.

TIA

Jennifer

PS First post on TrekBBS. Yeah!

Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen an "official" MSD for a Miranda. There may be some fan-made design out there, but the Miranda/Reliant kind-of came-and-went before the TNG-style MSD designs became popular.

That's my fear as well. I do have someone at Starship Modeler who might have a fan made one.

Miranda class general plans

Yes, those are the one's I've bought and for which I'm awaiting delivery. My long-term goal (and I do mean long term) is to outline those in Illustrator and then add the blinking lights and such in Flash for a full MSD.

I appreciate your link, however.

Thanks,

Jennifer

There was one in TNG's "Night Terrors" though not close enough to see anything. The only close view is largely blocked by Data or offscreen.

In any event, it's not an MSD cutaway. It's an exterior diagram. You could (and doubtless have) find one of those with ease.

Yeah, it's not exactly a true MSD. It's the closest we got onscreen. Jackill's books have a nice cross section for the Miranda which would make a good basis for an MSD.

Regarding the images from "Night Terrors": It's not a true cutaway but at least it is canon and it suggests what my MSD might look like. For instance, I've never considered a top view and a side view for an MSD.

Actually, it's sort of consistent that a Miranda would have its "master systems display" equivalent in the form of annotated exterior views rather than cutaways. After all, that's how the graphics were done on the Constitution refits and the Constellations (the Hathaway at any rate), and apparently the Excelsior as well.

AFAIK, the only TOS movie era ship to have featured a cutaway-type display was the Enterprise-B. I don't know if that is any more informative than an exterior view, in terms of in-universe functionality. Of course, an official cutaway would tell us the audience more about the interiors...

If you just want to have accompanying graphics for the blog in proper style, I suggest going with exterior rather than interior views for the MSD. Apparently, even those 23rd century designs that had received internal refits in the 24th century, or had been built in that century (the ShirKahr would be of the latter category, I think), regularly featured exterior view graphics.

But if you want to come up with a cutaway view, by all means go for it. Some TOS movie era ships have been witnessed with TNG-style interior graphics - the Lantree from "Unnatural Selection", for example (alas, no MSD visible).

I will be making an MSD based on the Brattain Graphic. It will look just like the graphic seen in that ep, but it will have the MSD on the side view graphic. I am working on another MSD right now, but I will get to it when I am done with that graphic. You can find a preview below.
