I can't believe this flavour does not exist here, why why why. I have not even seen it at Costco which usually has some lame attempt at foisting Halloween on australians.

So my all spice berries arrived today. My star anise arrived on Friday, I think. i ground those in my tiny blender, and went work on the cinnamon stick and nutmeg with a micro plane. Added some already ground ginger from the jar and mixed it all in airtight container. The aromatic quality of the stuff was amazing. I added a quarter teaspoon to two cups of vanilla flavored soy milk and ran it through the blender. Freaking fantastic. I think I'm going to make an espresso and soy milk protein shake for the morning and add half a teaspoon of pumpkin spice. This the season.

Well, it's also a very traditional dish associated with the Canadian holiday of Thanksgiving, in October. And yet our meager selection of pumpkin spice products pales compared to yours.

Is Canadian Thanksgiving as big a deal as ours in America? It's personally my most important holiday of the year.

Not as big a deal, no. But that's also because of why it's celebrated in the first place, which is a different reason than in the U.S. It's celebrated earlier because everything gets harvested earlier, due to the cooler weather. The celebration is attributed to Martin Frobisher, making the voyage in search of the Northwest Passage, which was quite a perilous journey, and having a celebratory dinner in thanks, not for the harvest, but for making the journey safely from England. That might explain our lack of Pumpkin Spice products.
But to answer your question, some families do get together, but in general it's lower-key than the family gatherings that the U.S gets. The U.S also has the football to look forward to, making it an even more of an anchor event, but Canada doesn't have anything of the sort in relation to it. We tend to gather more around the Christmas holidays.

I dislike the Pumpkin Spice craze for one reason (okay, two, if you count that I hate the taste): as soon as autumn or Halloween season roll around, everything automatically becomes pumpkin spice flavored because clearly, that's the only possible flavor that could convey autumn or Halloween, right? The overproliferation of pumpkin spice is just a lazy marketing ploy that prevents companies from offering anything other than this predetermined flavor. I personally loathe pumpkin spice, but hey, maybe I would love apple cinnamon. Or perhaps cranberry pumpkin. Or cranberry almond. Or cinnamon pear. Or quince. But no, it's all pumpkin spice, all the time. No one is forcing me to purchase these things, and I certainly don't, but it would be nice to have another couple of options.
(Yes, I know some places offer other options, but none are offered so often or so prominently as pumpkin spice)
(Also, I'm not suggesting quince Oreos. Bleah!)

Well, to be honest, I think it varies by location. I've found all sorts of Pumpkin teas there. But they're one of the few stores I know that manage to go all out for the season without being too gimmicky about it. I think there might also be some pumpkin spice cookies and the like. I'd go take another look

OK, I found myself at a Starbuck's today, which is a very rare occurrence. So I figured this would be a great opportunity to try one of their pumpkin spice lattes. Keeping in mind that I tried a latte at Timmie's (not pumpkin spice) a few years back, and didn't care for it at all, so I've been working under the assumption that I don't like lattes.
O.M.G.... it was FANTASTIC! I guess I finally found something that I like from Starbuck's better than Timmie's, which I thought would never happen.
But OMG... the price! Over *five* dollars for a single (non-alcoholic) drink?! At that price, it's going to have to be a "once or twice every fall treat", rather than a fall replacement for my daily coffee.
I get a lot of baking supplies from there, so I'm there semi-regularly. I'll be sure to check it out next time!

So I guess they decided to shake it up and a couple weeks ago started gettign in just pumpkin-flavored products. But that's kind of like cutting a turd in half. Yay, I can't wait to buy the stuff people shovel out and trash every year. Not.

Around here we get egg nog at Easter, as well.
Last week my grocery store had pumpkin this, that, and many other things... I'd wanted to try the pumpkin rolls, but they didn't have them this week. All they had was pumpkin pie, so I opted for blueberry cake instead as my Thanksgiving treat. I'll have some kind of pumpkin thing at Christmas.
It's the weekend of the year where many businesses/tourist places switch from summer hours to winter hours. Yesterday was the last Farmer's Market of the season, and places such as the museum and Nature Centre switched to winter hours.
Thanksgiving weekend this year coincides with the advance polls for the current federal election. Some people are making a combination election/Thanksgiving occasion of it... go to the polling station, vote, then go home and eat.

One of the computer games I got addicted to has several turns in which the player is told to make pine needle tea and serve it to the workers (the game is about a group of explorers searching for an ancient alien artifact and rescuing a group of fellow explorers). The tea has the effect of increasing the speed at which the workers can gather resources (mining, cutting wood, gathering food, and hauling water).I'd be afraid to try... those needles would really hurt the tongue!
