Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

There were planets? I didn't see any. I just saw the surface of the sphere which had land and water masses.

Ok, I have to rewatch the episode (saw it last many years back), maybe I am wrong. Data said something that in a spere of that size there could be (xxx) many planets orbiting a sun. That's why I thought it had inside a solar system with an inhabited planet.

You may be thinking of this line...

Data: "The interior surface area of a sphere this size is the equivalent of more than two hundred and fifty million class M planets."

ok, thanks. You're right.

"Technically speaking, the episode showed a Dyson shell rather than a Dyson sphere. A Dyson sphere—sometimes called a Dyson "swarm"—consists of a series of satellites (or statites) orbiting a star which capture a large portion of its energy output and then transmit that energy to another location (e.g., a planet in the star system), or are themselves space habitats" is also possible.

I'm just noticing Geordi's soul patch this season and wondering if I missed it in earlier seasons or it's what he kept after shaving off the beard midseason.

I don't remember a "soul patch." I only remember the hint of a beard for about 2 episodes.

Chain of Command came yesterday. Ordered it from the states. Looking foraward to watching it tomorrow but I still have two and a half weeks till I get the full season as it is not out till 21st July over here in the UK.

I personally am looking forward to the box set, as season 6 is one of my favs. What I love about the blu rays is seeing details and colours that were never there before. I forgive the minor errors as they dont seem to be a noticeable as season 2.

I just received the german Blurays and am watching the extras on the last disc ... the audio of the first documentary is out of sync for some milliseconds with minute 4. Am I the only one?

Nope, there have been audio sync issues on a few of the VAM installments, some more noticeable than others. I've passed the info on to CBS.

FWIW, I've been able to correct sync problems with that particular VAM by fast forwarding or skipping to the end of the video file, returning to the menu, and starting the VAM over again. Make sure you don't rewind or fast forward, as that might trigger the problem again. Just use pause if need be.

Anyway, give it a shot -- it might work on your player.

episode credits before the tng theme intro?

This is the only Star Trek episode in which the episode title and guest star credits appear in the teaser before the main opening sequence. This may have been done so as not to detract from the action of the phaser fight between the away team and the Borg, which comprises the majority of Act One. Alternatively, this might have been done because the credits would have run longer than Act One itself.

Forgive me if this was mentioned already, but I just watched "Birthright, Part I" and noticed that the glimpse of the production crewmember sitting in the hallway during Data's dream sequence was partially fixed. The most noticeable part of it, seen in the DVD screencap below, was digitally erased. However, a few second earlier, just as the bird POV turns into the wide hallway, you can still see part of the dark shirt.

Do you have a cap of the Blu-Ray of this shot?

I am watching Rascals, and when the Ferengi take the bridge, Riker dives out of the way of a missing phaser beam effect it seems.

I really hate how phasers were handled in general on TNG, how do you step out of the way of a phaser beam? It always looks weird when they did it.

I don't have the capability of taking Blu-ray screenshots on my computer currently, unfortunately. If someone else is able to, by all means!

Then in Starship Mine, Geordi gets hit from one of the bad guy's phasers and is just knocked out, and Hutchinson gets shot the same way and dies. Silly TV show logic.

Here's the DVD cap of the shot in question. You see it right after the bird POV rounds the corner:

It wasn't caught by CBS-D I guess. You see the tiny black sliver for about 5 frames or so before Noonien gets in the way.

Now that you can read the door signs, you can see all the mistakes where the deck numbers are wrong..lol

Loved the last shot in Fistful of Datas, with the Enterprise cruising toward the sun.

The 6th season of TNG feels like the 3rd Season of TOS, things are a bit off, episode quality has gone down and there are a few gems scattered within the season.

It may seem that way, but it's like that on the DVD. There's no phaser beam in that shot of him diving out of the way -- just phaser sound effects, presumably of the Ferengi firing on others, off camera. :)
