Season SEVEN OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

Availability for the TNG blurays has never been good.

Target had a couple promotional tie-ins for a couple seasons, when you bought the season set along with the standalone release, which I took advantage of. But I think they only did that twice.

The Best Buy I went to had a big display up for the new Apes movie that also came out today. I had to ask someone where the TNG S7 set was to even find it, hidden on an island display of "new releases."

At least it was there.

I took advantage of the Target deals while they existed. Unless I got there right at 8AM, I'd miss out. Even with the deal, they had 3 copies of each to start.

I used to always get them at Target day of release, got burned the last two times (zero inventory) so Amazon it was for the last season. Just got it in.

Emailed my Amazon seller today regarding the "item dispatched" email I received on 20th Nov. He says the email was automatic after he confirmed the order. He's told me he hasn't yet received the set from the supplier, and will post it out to me on 15th Dec, so will be very lucky to get it before Christmas.

Rather peeved, but not surprised.

Just picked up the mail and both of them came. I'm thinking about maybe (if I get Amazon Gift Cards) going back and getting the Unification disc which was the only of the extra discs I didn't get. I didn't really find that one worth buying, but I've been enjoying the special features on the others. The one for Redemption actually really surprised me with how great it was. I also wanted the Chain of Command because of the Ronnie Cox interview.

Hopefully the one for All Good Things is great too.

Waited 20 min outside Best Buy for store opening only to find out that their shipment has been delayed and delivery can be anytime in next two weeks. VERY FRUSTRATED!

I must say, it's rather disappointing how CBS let S7 hang out to dry, rather than letting the series go out with a bang. There has been next to no promotion for the set, besides two clips (instead of the 6+ they usually do), a trailer and press release (several months ago!), no review units, and delayed shipments. The future isn't looking bright....

The HD remaster sure goes a long way to make these episodes watchable. I'm through Attached right now, and am finding a new appreciation for these episodes. I didn't much care for Gambit before, but now I do. Things still look bland, but eye-poppingly bland!

The slipcover for my AGT solo release is missing one of the plastic velcro pieces, so the hinge opens freely. Oh well.

Some people are reporting that they've gone to Best Buy and haven't found a copy on the shelf and when they get an employee to go check in back the employee returns with 3 or 4 sets. Apparently Best Buy is really screwing this up. I had to order season 7 and All Good Things from Amazon.

Agreed with Gambit. The final shot in part 1 where the Enterprise enters orbit to confront the raiders is really nice and sharp!

Has anyone watched the special features yet? I watched Part one of their big one and at the end Rick Berman said something along the lines of not having a sense of familiarity with the episodes he was watching on BBC America one day. This was during the segment (At the very end) where the writers were talking about Trek in the future and not being hindered by continuity and I wasn't really understanding Rick at all here. Does he have regrets working on TNG? He said later on he didn't have Regrets, but the tone of his voice made it seem like he might have had a few. I guess being the whipping boy all those years did do a number on him. Almost felt a little sorry for the guy, trying to do his job and keeping Trek on the air for as long as he did even though it was the networks pushing him despite him wanting to take a break.

In hindsight, I've realized I don't blame Berman or Braga for the state of Star Trek in the early 00s. I blame UPN trying to keep the franchise, and their network, alive and then almost killing it when Enterprise was cancelled.

Always go with Amazon. I went to get Enterprise and STNG blurays before at target and they always have to go in the back room to get them. From then on I always order on Amazon.

I watched the first ten minutes of the one with the Directors.

Fascinating. love the stories.

Also watched the entire Okuda tape of the sets...that was WAY awesome.
They show all of the detail on the main consoles on the bridge.

Oddly enough, that's exactly what happened to me with the Batman TV series Blu-ray a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the young man "assisting" me yesterday looked up the order in the computer and claimed they had 21 units (!) on order, none of which had been received. (sigh):wtf:

Finished the special features other than the In Conversation one tonight and overall they were pretty good. I'm a little disappointed they didn't keep with the format of the first season though and the documentaries felt too much like the ones on the DVD, with the cast and crew talking about the series and kind of no emotion to it. What I liked about the first one (And some of the others, and the beginning of this documentary too) was the archival footage of the time TNG was in, such as the promotional material or the ET segments. I was hoping after the first season to kind of relive trek through the golden era with each set and that really didn't happen. Don't get me wrong the interviews were good (especially talking with Ron Moore and Brannon Braga) but I almost think there was so much more they could have done. Heck, a feature I would have loved was taking a behind the scenes of the promos for "Next time on Star Trek: The Next Generation" with Don Lafontaine and the other guy. I know Don is dead but I guess they don't interview announcer guys.

Looking forward to getting into the episodes and revisiting season 7. There are some episodes I can't wait to see again, like Masks and Emergence.
