LOL indeed, because of course I'm obviously talking about the roles of all the Klingons we had seen up to this point in Star Trek, which were all warriors without exception.

I find the first two seasons of TNG, even though they were more "hit and miss" and had some cheese factor, to be far more interesting than what came later.
Picard was still a stern "boss"-like figure before he mellowed out, which was very interesting.
The technology and the ship's mission were still treated as wonders and there was a much better sense of truly encountering the unknown. They felt like they were out in space on their own. Later TNG felt like taking a ride in dad's car to the mall. Later TNG never felt like they were facing the unknown. Just patrolling known space, negotiating, and being glorified curriers.
The earlier Klingons were more interesting and less common / stereotypes. Worf wasn't blathering on about "honor" as much, and he still felt distant and somewhat alien.
Not every problem was solved by tachyons, reversing polarity, modulating, and use of the main deflector dish.
So yes, while S1 (and 2) were more uneven...they were much more in line with what I love about Star Trek. I'll trade occasional awkwardness and some failed attempts for that feel.

"The Last Outpost" was a bit of a turning point for me and I really liked "The Battle", "Hide And Q", "Datalore", "Coming Of Age", "Skin Of Evil" (but not the death of Yar), "Conspiracy" and "The Neutral Zone".

I do. I prefer the first three seasons. From season four on, the show seems to become mostly a technobabble procedural, where the solution is to "tech-the-tech" — something VOY took to an extreme.
Definitely under-rated. There are a lot of good episodes in season 1. Even in some "not great" episodes, there is normally something to enjoy.

As someone who saw TOS first run, sorry, but IMO you couldn't be motre mistaken TNG Season 1 DIDN'T have a TOS feel to it at all. That was one of my main issues with it - it came off as a substandard retcon of A LOT of TOS. It felt very superficial in that it had the trappings of Star Trek set wise, but the stories were for the most part shallow.
I think it's rated appropriately.

Maybe not? I'm watching DS9 for the first time. Currently at the start of season 4. I honestly haven't found an episode of DS9 yet that is as bad as the bad episodes of TNG or TOS. Even stuff like "Move Along Home" doesn't seem that bad to me.Every season and every TV series has those.

Really? For me season two of Deep Space Nine is the most consistently good season of Trek. Long stretches of brilliant episodes are only broken by good ones, sprinkled with one or two okay ones in-between. I just love how different perceptions can be.
I'm so glad to see someone else share my love for season 2 of "DS9." I also think it might be the greatest season of all Trek shows as well. I think early seasons of most Trek shows tend to get a bad rap when reality it is the show's final season that tends to get off easy when most of them are bad or just inferior to the better seasons.

That's the thing about feelings they can be subjective. I should clarify that the first season, or maybe it's the first few episodes, had a TOS feel about it for me. I don't mean to speak declaratively and say my feelings are a difinitive explanation.
I think the TOS pilot episode "The Cage" also has a TNG vibe to it.
I do see what you're saying and I agree that as TNG went on there was a lot of technobabble and Voyager did take it further, but I seem to enjoy the technobabble.
S1 gets a ton of flak around here, and I think it's mostly well-earned.
Doesn't mean there aren't episode to enjoy there, but I definitely wouldn't call it underrated.
