Re: The OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Season 1 Discussion Thread

I've read somewhere (infamous opening words, I know...) that part of the reason McFadden left was because she felt really uncomfortable around... uh, who was it... Maurice Hurley, I think? That he was making advances on her?
Crazy stuff if true. But I don't even begin to remember where I heard it is, so eh. Not trying to spread nonsense, though. I know I read it somewhere...
Has anyone noticed a problem with the opening credits? The Enterprise seems to move in and out of, well, a dullness, the brightness of the ship changes. The names of the cast lack brightness as well; the picture gets brighter as the Enterprise moves into shot after Wil Wheaton's name. Anyone else seeing this?
the fourth disc was mistakenly labeled as Star Trek TNG S1 D5 although the menu says Disc four. Inexcusable really. Was someone asleep at the authoring controls? Wow.

I was wondering if anyone else might notice that!![]()
^ Always found it really sucky that Blu-ray continues to use baked-in raster subtitles. The software machinery that the spec requires to read a disc is certainly sophisticated enough that on-the-fly player-side rendering, and thus more user-customization, would be possible. Maybe they wanted to avoid the legal pitfalls / licensing costs of font file formats and rendering engines.
One more reason to go for non-raster subs, I guess ... in a structured non-graphical format you could naturally tag text spans with sound sources and then have the player chose to assign a random text color to each tag or not, from a user-configurable subset of the gamut that doesn't conflict with their potential color-blindness.

Well in this at least, the UK Blu-ray got it right.
'Disc Four' really *is* Disc Four!
(I just checked my set!)

Does your UK set have the audio defects with the 7.1 channel stream? If it doesn't, then it tells me the audio problem occurred in the authoring stage of the US version.
