Something struck me today about the end of Voyager, of OitNB and Kate's personal history.
When I first watched this scene, I marveled at how well Kate portrayed the patient with this diagnosis and wondered where she researched it. Then I yelled "idiot!" She didn't have to go anywhere to research this, she lived it with her own mother.
That was when I remembered the end of Voyager. At that time we knew of her mother's diagnosis and my heart hurt for the actress who had to play out this scene with her character's best friend.
Sometimes you just can't hide from your own personal tragedies.
