Spoilers Season 5 to premiere April 4th

I found a review with big spoilers, including the answer.

https://cinapse.co/2024/03/sxsw-2024-star-trek-discovery-season-5-finds-a-new-sense-of-adventure/

On the old science ship is an ancient Romulan puzzle box (apparently the one in the trailers), they meet a relic trader who is an Altan Soong type synth, and Tilly finds out what is in the box: A Romulan scientists' notes concerning
“the Progenitors”
from the TNG episode
The Chase!
They find their planet and the tech they left there...

Now I'm excited! :D

I actually don't like "the chase".
It's an okay episode, but I don't like the basic idea of this precursor race doing some intelligent design on evolution.

Didn't like it on Alien/Prometheus. Didn't like it with Van Däniken or the UFO meme guy.

Maybe I'm just not a fan of giving a definite, fictional answer to the most fundamental question of where we come from & where we go to.
It feels "too big" to just have a clear answer to that. Like, "oh, well, God also exists btw - here he is". The universe is solved now. Thanks. You can all go home now. Bye.

I really hope it turns out to be a great season. I'll reserve judgment 'til it's done though*, the early episodes almost always seem more promising than the resolution. Not trying to be a grump, I just don't trust Lucy with that football. ;)

*Judgement of the whole season, that is. Naturally, I'll judge each ep as they come out.
Yup.

No show gets a benefit of the doubt.

Resisting the urge to click your spoiler so bad. Will try to go into this unspoiled. It’s promising that you’re excited by it. :)

(Pretty uncool that the board software just shows the content of your spoiler to me the moment I quote it.)

This early Trekcore review makes the season sound promising as well. I’m especially excited for the secondary characters getting more substantial parts. And the way they’re going to handle the mystery this season sounds good as well.
I put the spoiliest spoilers in subspoiler tags within the intermediate spoilers, so you can open the one you see and then decide if you wanna open the other 2 within that :D

Here's a hint that narrows down which episode they are referencing which only Germans will understand ;)
It's one of the SiW episodes

I think my excitement exploded. It went from a 10 to a 13.5.
And...
you guessed it!

Oooh, more details here (big spoiler about the big spoiler :D):

https://thathashtagshow.com/2024/03/12/star-trek-discovery-is-back-with-a-bang-with-season-5review/

The Romulan scientist (Valek) was present when Jean-Luc Picard and others met a race of people called the “Progenitors”, so it may be one of these guys:

(just linking to kinda hide that visual spoiler) :D

Perhaps, it even is their captain who had that memorable exchange at the end of the episode:

ROMULAN [on monitor]: It would seem that we are not completely dissimilar after all, in our hopes, or in our fears.
PICARD: Yes.
ROMULAN [on monitor]: Well, then. Perhaps, one day.
PICARD: One day.
Imagine that! It's just getting better and better

That's pretty damn cool! Everything I'm hearing so far about season 5 has me the most excited I've been for Disco in ages.

Also kinda funny coincidence for me because what that particular episode established plays a part in some of the backstory of my fic.

It's a great source for stories. I'm excited they took this course.

I disagree with those who suggest that the "ancient astronaut" idea is poor development.

This is fiction. It can make a great story. Will it change my belief we haven't been visited yet by ETs? Of course not!

These Progenitors were not gods, they didn't declare themselves such, they influenced but didn't direct Earthy evolution.

It is also possible that cultures much older than ours exist based on the age of the universe. It may even be likely. It helps me buy this idea, but again to speculate on these things, it would require proof.

I love the origin of this episode extends back to Sagan's Contact.

All systems go Discovery.

I think that is fair.

But I think S4 stuck the landing pretty well. S2 and S3 of Pic did, IMHO. LD always seems to do a good job on the Finale, S2, S3, and S4 in particular. And I think PRO did well on both the mid-season finale. I'd say 8 very good ones.

LD1 was just fine.

DISCO 1-3 and PIC 1 were the only real misses for me.

"The Chase" was dumb as hell, and pretty shite to be fair. But that said, I do love when modern Trek doubles down on the dumb shit so let's just accept that in Trek's world, intelligent design is a thing.

Maybe they could tie it in with Threshold and explain how ultimately becoming a salamander unlocks the true meaning of life or something.

I'm honestly not sure if I'm joking or serious.

Wow, it has to be one of Trek's monumental episodes. I've never seen anyone dislike it.

This is a spoiler though and I covered my opinion on it in the spoiler tag

Oh interesting. Might do it

Shows to watch in April.

Star Trek: Discovery was a huge draw for CBS All Access (since rebranded as Paramount+) when it premiered in 2017. The series was followed by the show Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which is gearing up for its third season. The upcoming movie Star Trek: Section 31 will serve as a spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery. Although it has receivied praise for its prosthetic makeup and visual effects, Martin-Green’s gripping performance is really what fuels Star Trek: Discovery and its story.
