Season 5 opening credits.. WTF?

^I'm really glad they didn't try to do a narrative...flair...like that for DS9.
It could have been worse...it could have been like the ads for the Star Trek Movie Nights here in germany in the 90s. They used to cut random scenes together from the various movies to make it seem like the characters are watching / discussing the movies....VERY cringe worthy

The sets were great, either at the time and a set is always going to look like a set! They could go to nearby quarries - after those Mars Rover photos vindicating every BBC sci-fi show's use of quarries with electronic sky hue altering effect, it's safe to say quarries should never EVER be laughed at again but why am I talking about those when groupings of Lego-like boulders had a genuine charm of their own? They did indeed look great for interior sets! Add in the foliage, which must have been a real pain to clean up every week, and they still did a LOT - and it was still above and beyond TV prior to that point. (But TOS's gel backlit sets didn't bother me much either... I blame Star Wars and MTV for demanding photorealism in fiction make up for where or if storyline and character creativity falter.)

I in part believed the augmented logo came about due to TNG's height in pop culture zeitgeist thanks to seasons 2-4.

Or the result of possible ego, though at the time (the first few episodes) the worst of season 5's one-sided preachy soap opera rot was yet to start to set in... (DS9 and VOY would do the commentary a lot more finesse at this point, they would also use the 1980s movie font instead of TNG's, interestingly enough...) Was there a ratings drop due to TNG's altered prose that precipitated the return of the previous logo as a result? (Then again, season 6 was only worse... was the new logo ultimately deemed "too busy" but they didn't re-cut the title sequence or reinstate the predecessor?)

My latter-day TNG whiny rant aside, the logo's new look WAS pretty cool. Along with the updated conference room (replacing the model ships) and Picard's new outfit (which looked great), there was a lot of visual improvement. Though I missed the model ships, the conference room was already iconic but the new style was pretty slick too. The fact the TNG movies brought back shiny new model ships only proved they shouldn't have been removed in the show.

Aw, I liked the model ships...and I thought the conference room was only updated in that regard due to its usage in TUC?

They redressed the set for TUC, but then added in a new backdrop:

More cringeworthy than than the fan produced Star Trek Highlander Videos they broadcasted in between selected episodes during the big Star Trek night event? God, why do I still remember that?

I can't even picture this. Are they online anywhere?
