Season 5 of Atlantis in review (spoilers for finale as well)

On a whole I have to say the season was a pretty poor showing compared to the previous few seasons. There were a few gems hidden in there, such as the alternate reality Daedalus episode or the mid-season finale, but generally I felt let down.

There seemed to be a lot of stand alones thrown in this year, and quite a few episodes with the main cast broken up or given their own episodes. Picardo didn't really seem to add to the cast, and his episodes were pretty predictable in plot and outcome.

The finale was disappointing too. I had expected a bigger bang to go out with (don't get me wrong - Atlantis coming home was a big thing, and the battle was impressive), the basic running-around-the-hive story had been done to death - maybe they did it as a homage to past episodes!

I would rate this finale season 5 out of 10. What do you think?

The season was decent. Got kind of tired of the Tod thing. Is he a friend? Is he a foe. Come on already!

The finale was good. Too short though. They should have done a 90 minute or two hour episode. There was a lot crammed into it.

One of the weaker seasons of Atlantis IMO. Like you said, a few gems in there, but mostly I was dissapointed, seems like S5 was the worse as a whole compared to past seasons of SGA.

I thought this year was weak, as well, though stronger than the eminently forgettable season 4. It didn't help that many of the crappy episodes were front-loaded.

If they take Atlantis back to Pegasus I hope they fly it back to the original Planet Atlantis was always on, I mean they no longer have to worry abotu the Asurans finding them and the star in that system is a lot more stable than it is where they parked from season 4 to 5.

The 1st half of the season didn't really work for me until The Daedalus Variations, which was a blast. The Shrine was excellent, perhaps the best of the season and one of best of the entire series. Whispers was pretty good too, and more scary then some horror movies I've seen. The Queen worked because of Christopher Heyerdahl - Todd is by far one of the best things about the series.

The First Contact/Lost Tribe 2-parter was good (Part 2 was a bit of let-down), but between that and Vegas, there were too many 'meh' episodes. Not even the increased focus on Keller could reduce the meh-ness and between Lost Tribe and Vegas, only Remnants would rate as above-average for me. The last 2 episodes were decent, but this show has done better.

Season 5 reminds me of Season 3, there aren't many episodes from that season I wish to watch again and the same goes for this season, especially in the second half.

Wow; I'm just not on the same page. I thought season five was the best of the series; they were hitting on all cylinders for just about every episode. I especially liked the addition of Woolsey; they should have put him in there a long time ago.

As for my opinion on the rest of the series, I feel that the last half of season four was mostly unwatchable garbage, and the first three seasons (plus first half of season four) were very hit or miss (usually settling in the mediocre range).

Enjoyed but then I actually like SG-A, I know silly me ...Filler episodes were the weakest and make me wish SG-A had a bigger budget, same goes for the finale, which was great but could of done with a 90 minute length time and more money pumped into it. Season 4 has a few gems but I liked season 5 much more overall, however season 1 is still the best, with 2 the weakest.
