Season 5: Course: Oblivion *spoilers*

VulcanGuy

Lieutenant
I just finished watching this and man, what a horrific episode. Seeing such strong willed characters Seven and Janeway in those weakened states was really unsettling to me.

Then, as it appears they will be able to meet the real Voyager their entire ship is destroyed.

I remember a thread where someone said Thirty Days with Paris was the most depressing episode, but that hardly compares to this!

I thought this was one of the very few episodes that had a real emotional impact. Another one was when Voyager crashed and future Harry Kim saves them. Another was Year of Hell. In every cases, the end result of the episode was basically no impact on the Voyager crew. If the show could have been that good with stories that didn't reset at the end, it would have been infinitely better.

Right on man. I just checked wiki and the official trek site forumers gave this ep a rating of 3.5/5?!? Much weaker episodes have received much higher ratings.

This is one of my favorite episodes as well. However, the majority don't really care for it. Most of that stems from the fact that the characters we are seeing aren't the "real" crew. So who cares about their plight.

I loved this episode, thought it was brilliant. Shows how good Voyager could be.

I have no problems with Course: Oblivion itself, beyond the fact that it is a sequel to DEMON, which is one of the worst episodes of Voyager, AFAIC.

"Course: Oblivion" is one of my favorites just because of the emotional impact. It didn't matter to me that this wasn't the 'real' crew. The duplicate's plight was still very real for me and the emotional hangover carried over for days afterwards. I couldn't stop thinking about it. How many episodes can you say that about?

I agree, this episode is very underrated and IMHO one of Voyager's best. It didn't bother me that it wasn't the 'real' crew. The mere fact that these were these life forms that had just essentially began their existence and resembled our regular heroes was enough.

I always enjoyed this episode and it has frequently made me wonder: how many other Voyagers were out there?

Maybe someone should start an 'Alternate Voyager' thread like the 'Alternate TNG' thread going on.

I always liked the episode. The end where they died without being recognized for who they were seemed very sad to me.

I hated it only because Tom and B'elanna finally got married and then they DIED.

Really, I was so incensed because the entire reason that I started watching Voyager was because of the episode Workforce, and I absolutely adored how the two had a connection even when they didn't know each other, and how Tom had an intrinsic, caring interest in the welfare of the baby.

So, I started watching the entire series from beginning to end because i wanted to see how their relationship progressed(and, I also had watched it as a kid and loved it but didn't remember anything)...and I was totally looking forward to C:O because i knew they got married in it...but I didn't know it WASN'T REALLY THEM.

They didn't get married till season 7, actually :-(

Thankfully, I had fallen in love with the series for the sake of the series and not just Tom & B'elanna, but man..what a blow.

Beyond that, I will admit that it was a really well-done episode that did have the emotional shock I believe the writers were going for. It also recalls how millions of people in our own real history have had interesting lives or survived significant tragedies but have died in obscurity, invisible and mysterious to history's archives... but nevertheless important. They have gone into Oblivion, forever forgotten and unknown. No one can tell their story.

I've always been a fan of this episode. Voyager actually following up on previous episodes. Be still my heart!

I would have actually been in favor of this being a two parter (knock 11:59 out of the season to make room) to make it so we could have seen each characters tragic end. We saw Janeway, Chakotay & B'Elanna. The of course Harry, Seven and Neelix all together. But it could have been so much better to see all of that characters reach their end.

Tuvok, realizing his duplicate nature could have not become so concerned with logic and shown emotion. To see how the anger and pain consumed Paris, maybe all the way to his dying breath.

I also would have liked it if they mystery had reached Voyager better, maybe in the form of a log entry, or just a few recorded words from Janeway.

Well, I cared about them; I was terribly sad for them. Tom and B'Elanna had a beautiful wedding.

Five minutes after 'Endgame' the crew and ship liquified. The real Voyager is still in the Delta Quadrant!!! :(
