Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” will end with its upcoming second season, Variety has learned exclusively.

The show was originally picked up at Paramount+ in 2023, with the streamer renewing the show for a second season before the first had aired. The first season debuted in January and aired its season finale on March 12, while the second season recently wrapped production.

“We’re incredibly proud of the ambition, passion, and creativity that went into bringing ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to life,” CBS Studios and Paramount+ said in a joint statement. “The series introduced audiences to a bold new group of characters, welcomed familiar faces, and expanded the ‘Star Trek’ universe in exciting new ways. We’re grateful to Alex Kurtzman, Noga Landau, Gaia Violo, and the entire cast and crew who pushed storytelling boundaries in the spirit of Gene Roddenberry’s vision. We look forward to sharing the upcoming second and final season with everyone, and continuing to celebrate the cast, crew, and all that was accomplished with this series.”

Damn, even though this was what many suspected would happen, it still sucks. I wonder what made them wait until now to announce it.

The corporate word salad in the press release is kinda ridiculous.

Oh well, I’m still looking forward to season two, even though it will be bittersweet watching it knowing it’s the last.

Its curious the article doesn't mention the show being cancelled, just not being renewed. It also doesn't really give any reason, so I think we can guarantee that its due to the change in owjership.

I believe it was intended to go four years, to coincide with college semesters. So the fact that it’s only going for two means it was effectively canceled. Unless 32nd century Starfleet Academy is a community college.

I hope they are able to go back and shoot some more stuff so the finale doesn't end on a cliffhanger, or at least edit the episode for a more satisfying ending now that it is a series finale. I'll miss the show. I thought it was a wonderful addition to the franchise. I was hoping to see them graduate.

Fortunately, how much I love a Trek show isn’t determined by how long the show ran or how successful it’s been. I’ve come to love these characters, the setting and the premise, and if season two is as good as season one, this will still go down as one of my favorite Trek shows, cancellation be damned. And remember, the original show, Enterprise and Prodigy were all cancelled before their time, and still people love them or view them as cult classics decades later. ;)

It literally says that in the article.

Not surprised but very disappointed. Oh well! We move on.

Besides, we still have three more seasons and 26 episodes of unaired Trek to watch. (Cue the comments stating “That was one season of Berman era Trek!”)

It's the same thing.

Well, I'm sorry to see it. I wouldn't have said that, ten minutes into the first episode. The whole thing was a delightful surprise, to me.

Now we've got something like 2.6 seasons of upcoming Star Trek episodes that will air over the next two years or so that represent projects that are already finished.
