Season 2 Teaser

Jellico left the Cairo to command another ship because he was the better officer for the job. Maybe it’s less to do with the ship and more the officer.

Obviously it's about both the ship and the officer, or else it wouldn't happen at all. Jellico, like Pike, was the right man for the job, but he needed the diplomatic and intimidation factor of the flagship. Pike presumably needs the spore drive.

He’s gonna ruffle some feathers with it ;)

I just did a quick search on that transcript site, the Enterprise-D was called the flagship in several episodes of the series, but not in Generations.

Also the Ent-E was never called the flagship. So I was wrong too.
Picard says the Klingons are deciding whether a 20 year old bird of prey can take on the federation flagship in generations. When they arrive in orbit of veridian iii before the Klingons decloak

I love this site

RIKER: Maybe they're not out there.
PICARD: They're just trying to decide whether a twenty year-old Klingon Bird-of-Prey can be a match for the Federation flagship.

Oh I see where I went wrong. The transcript site files Generations under ‘TOS’ for some odd reason, I was only searching ‘TNG’.

I assume since they left all their work bees/drones behind it's following on from the Enterprise having been damaged trying to get close to one of the anomalies. She's not going anywhere, Discovery can jump to and away from the red spots, it makes sense to have Pine take command while his own ship is being repaired.

Well, if these red (matter?) spots are spread across 30,000 light years, what better ship than Discovery to go hunt them down? As long as she has specific coordinates, the trip should be easy enough to navigate. We’re talking Voyager-sequel distances to cross here, and assuming we’re sticking to TOS interpretations of warp speed, its years to decades to get to any of them by standard drives, even if they’re relatively close to one of them going by the map we see.

Mark

So they are obviously casting a NEW Spock actor now.

Does anyone think Spock may become the new science officer on Discovery while the Enterprise is in drydock?

He said he served under Pike for 11 years, 4 months and 5 days.... but he never said he did so on the Enterprise only.

This could be another case of Kurtzman "bending canon without breaking it" as he said at SDCC.

Something tells me they really want to explore the Spock/Burnham dynamics.

I suspect you’re right on both counts here - but I hope you’re wrong.

Spock seems to be the most important character in the whole Star Trek universe and as much as I love Spock, he’s not Anakin Skywalker.

I actually hope Pike doesn’t stick around too long so as to allow the disco crew to develop on their own without the crutch of TOS to prop them up.

On somewhat barely related note, here some more competition for STD Season 2.

I liked STD season 2 trailer, much better than 1st season.
But THIS is how you do a trailer!

I think they need it, sadly.

I mean our core STD characters are Burnham, Tilly, Saru, Stamets, L'Rell, and Tyler :/

Advantage of Pike though is he is a blank slate basically. An undeveloped character from the TOS era. So making him a core Discovery character to elevate the series wouldn't do much harm.

Hmm. That trailer actually disappoints me a bit, that was a great alternate history show, and it seems to be becoming a sort of Sliders with Nazis.

Lol...meh.

I actually hope Star Trek avoids the multi-verse stuff. It just isn't scientific in the way it's presented.

If there were alternate universes and realities out there where significant changes to history have happened, it's incredibly unlikely you'd have exact genetic dopplegangers in those universes...

Given how conception works.

Which is why I think the whole 'Mirror Universe' concept is silly and dated. It shouldn't have been explored so heavily on STD.

If Trek ever does explore another universe, I'd like to see one where the humans on Earth evolved drastically different. Maybe even Reptile/Mammal hybrids.
