Season 2 Teaser

I'd argue the Disco joke works better because it takes something mundane -- who hasn't been sneezed on in an enclosed space? -- and makes it absurd because aliens.

It's the variety of humor that's always worked best on Star Trek.

I'd even argue it's those sort of jokes that work best on Orville, as opposed to MacFarlane more traditional vaudevillesque style.

*I should clarify that by "aliens" I really mean anything science-fictiony. The TVH jokes are of the same breed, for example.

I agree. Another thing is these characters are more contemporary in behavior and thus it's more expected to see modern day reactions to things than you do with more perfect or stylized, future people. "TOS" was very modern by 60's standards but also by modern tv standards so certain things would never be shown. I mean just showing a toilet exists would proably have been seen as "Out their." The "TNG people are basically perfect beyond any hope for regular modern day foibles except Barclay. "DS9" was a mix of "TNG" and "TOS" More flawed people but they were still slowly moving away from PIllar speak to real modern human speak and "Voyager" was the same. "Enterprise" they talked just like us but weren't allowed to have any of our real flaws.

Also I just recalled another snot joke. Remember the time the EMH created a fake cold to prove a point and Kes rigged the program and he had to have napkins to keep sneezing into. Also a little more gross than snot would be young Molly vomiting after Lawxani Troi gave her to much candy.

Not Trek related but who can forget Daniel Jackson's allergies in the movie and early seasons of the show?

Awkward elevator conversations, I get. But I'm pretty sure I don't remember ever having been sneezed on in an enclosed space, so maybe I can't relate. Regardless, it's juvenile gross-out humor, and and I just don't find it funny, and never have. Obviously YMMV, but that kind of thing is actually what I like least about The Orville.
It's a wonderful awkward elevator scene (not quite entirely) ruined by a snot gag. Situational humor = gold. Body function humor = works for some / sometimes / not here.

Just watched it...Mount looks decent but nothing more....Rest was a bit blah...But any trailer involving the music of Lenny Kravitz tends to turn me against it tbh! The sneezing thing seemed a bit forced in a 'oh look were being whacky and funny now honest!' way...After last season end not getting my hopes up too much!

From the reactions that people have had to the sneeze, I guess it's a good thing he didn't fart....

To be fair they made jokes about Worf having a pimple in INS. This is sort of the same thing.

It’s just funny how it’s very similar to the Orville scene - weird alien in the middle, crew being awkward. And the Orville alien guy didn’t even sneeze.

Nobody yell at me for mentioning the Orville.

I wonder what those red swirly things are?

I'm going to (personally) cut them a little slack there given one can see an effort toward humour. Though it is interesting they are trying to lighten things up.

I'm impressed that the VFX in this trailer - which very likely aren't the finished article given that Season 2 has only been in production since April - are considerably better looking than the majority of Season 1's VFX work. Just goes to show what an effects vendor can do when they aren't scrambling like mad to complete thousands of effects shots in a very short timeframe.

At least Linus didn't ask Burnham if the Red stuff was making her boobs more firm or make a Dick Joke about Women are from Venus and Men have a penis, or however that "The Naked Now" punchline, ended.

13,000 light years is larger than the federation - even in Picard’s time the federation is spread across 8,000 light years.

those red swirlies must be way out on the frontier.

The final frontier if you will.

Whilst I welcome humour, I really don't think being sneezed on is particularly intelligent or funny sort of humour.
It's still an improvement on implying that a woman enjoyed being sexually assaulted, I suppose...?
