Season 2 Teaser

So far I was so disappointed in S1 and extremely negative about S2. But this actually seems good enough that I will give them another chance on netflix.

The only thing I didn't like was Burnham's voice over or her acting.

I guess we will see the Enterprise only in the opening episode (without Spock), then adult Spock over the course of the season, and the Enterprise again in the grand finale.

Also, I dig the idea of having a different Captain for Discovery every season. Pike is a nice choice in this regard, because we know this will be temporary as well, but we know he won't turn out to be evil or die at the end (come to think of it - having him befrom the Mirror Univers would have been a much bigger punch than "Lorca"). I guess we will end up with Captain Burnham soon, maybe even S3 or S4.

Another thing I like: Season arcs. I think they are better than full-series arcs (like DS9 did), because if one idea is crap (klingon war...), they just can change for the next season. Also it means each plot has a logical beginning, middle and end, and doesn't meanders around (I LIKE DS9, but it was obvious in the end they didn't knew what to do with Garak and Winn anymore...). Also, a clean break allows for new viewers to come in easier with a new season, while it still allows for continous plots over the whole series being handled as "side-plots" in each season.

Also, it kinda' keeps the "anthology-show with recurring cast"-vibe that's a staple of Star Trek!

Another thing is who think those things might be presented as portals to Hell? We do have the God vs Science thing afterall. Also we got Pike and I can't help but recall how in "The Cage" the Talosians used their illusions to place him basically in Hell for a few moments which means Pike might be a realigious person.
Also I am thinking about them being connected to the energy particle that landed on Tilly. I can already see her being possessed by a Demon and Spock in the final episode of this arc, which I see lasting maybe those first 5 episodes somehow returning from this Hell dimenson and using both his Science knowledge and combing it with info Burnham learns in the 5 episodes to save Tilly. One other thing is, even though they can't say it in front of Spock because of canon but what if we are dealing with the Redjec alien or demon from "Wolf in the Fold." We don't know anything about that lifeform or it's species only that they are long-lived.

Another thing I think is interesting, is that they are filling the Enterprise-crew with "big-but-not-too-big" actors. Like, Anson Mount clearly can be cast as a lead in a series, Rebecca Romijn as Nr. 1 is also a mid-profile choice, and I'm pretty sure whomever they will cast as Spock will be a high-profile with regular amitions as well. Someone who is not Zachary Quinto, but recognizable as well (on a level like ZQ-back-in-his-"heroes"-days).

Almost, as if they are preparing a backdoor pilot.
Like, they are all too high profile actors to be just extras, but also not big enough names that you wouldn't get them back for a regular series.

Now, to be completely, 100% honest: I don't want to see a Cpt. Pike series.
I'm just not that interested in it in general. I wouldn't have minded it instead of Discovery, but now we have DIS, a second "10 years before Kirk"-show seems redundant. I would MUCH more like them to go back to the 24th century for future Trek series (hopefully that Picard show works out! And then we will get spin-offs with other actors from that).

But I wouldn't actually mind seeing the Pike-Enterprise again once or twice, either as semi-regular guests on DIS, or maybe on something like a mini-series or some straight-to-stream movies.

You might be right about the reasons they cast who they cast for Pike and Number 1. I'm thinking a tv movie or a mini-series also about Pike and the Enterprise crew. Something maybe as a filler between big screen movies or something to get people excited for them. Which actually though makes me think we could see Quinto. It might be confusing for people trying to figure out why this Quinto Spock is not the Kelvin Universe Quinto Spock but they are doing a Tarantino movie as well so canon confusing is just going to be just that. More confusing than ever, pretty soon. I think we might even get a thread about it here on the Trekbbs when it happens.

The "early 2019" part is disappointing, I was hoping for "late 2018". I suspect it will be very early in 2019, as they would want to stay clear of the juggernaut that will be the final season of Game of Thrones (which will absorb all the media attention when it starts).

Dude, 2019 is less than half a year away. That's not so long to wait now.

Also that elevator scene has been done before in other shows/movies.

Of course it has. That doesn't change the fact that a lot of praise of The Orville/criticism of Discovery was over character interaction, now all of a sudden Discovery is doing something that The Orville was doing well (elevator interactions/fun interaction between the bridge crew).

Someone on the Discovery staff/CBS was paying attention to what the competition is doing right. Which is a good thing. Nothing worse than people digging in and repeating mistakes.

If Spock is just "on leave", why did they allow Burnham to have access to his quarters? That would seem like a major violation of his privacy.

In addition, they've already built the Enterprise bridge and at least a few other sets. It would be a waste in a certain sense to tear them down immediately.

Maybe that's why they fired Harberts/Berg/Goldsman? They were wasting a shit-ton of money on things that weren't able to be reused.

Liked the all CGi-suit in the pilot.

It wasn’t CG all the time

It makes sense that the one in the trailer is different, lugging that bulky thing around on the ground makes no sense. It is probably only a thruster suit.

Maybe in those days Spock was a more happy go lucky groovy kind of guy than he was in TOS? I mean in the cage he’s smiling and laughing and shouting about “the women!!!” So maybe he’d be ok with it.

Or more likely Michael was always going into his room when they were growing up because Spock totally had an adopted human sister member?

The ones in the second trailer are different, yes. These are for space ops. The new ones seem geared for planetside or intra-ship ops.

I do like this version on the picture there. Sure is less clunky than the TWOK ones, without seeming out of place around that era.
