Season 2 Publicity Photos

Bruce Wayne in the space suit looks great.

Are they after ET?

Hey look, it's Alara from the Orville pilot. Y'know, before her eyebrows grew back in.

I have to say I like the new uniforms less than I thought I would. They're obviously improvement over the horrid Discovery uniforms, nut somehow still a bit meh. Beyond uniforms did the same thing better. I don't think the black collar really works with this design, and the colours just seem off. That bright yellow in particular looks garish. It is also awkward that the science blue is almost the same colour than Discovery uniform blue. They should have at least used TOS's pale blue to make them more different. And of course now we have two different and completely incompatible ways to indicate rank; that is just plain crazy.

Yeah, I'm with you with that.
I actually love Pike's uniform color! But that black, one-sided collar is horrendous. It wouldn't have been that noticable if it weren't so stark black. The rest of the uniform works IMO nicely (I never cared that much about the rank display - it's just fiction. As long as it's at least there I'm fine with it).

But yeah, the red and blue ones have an odd color choice. It should be a brighter blue, and a more wine-colored red IMO. As it is, it just doesn't really work that good. But, oh well, still preferable to Discovery's uniforms.... how weird.

The new spacesuits (which are colored as well!) look FANTASTIC though!

The US Navy already does so. This is keeping with tradition, actually:

But those are both a star and four bars, they're the same. Now we have a situation where in one system Lieutenant Commander has two bright pips and one black pip, where in another they have one wide and one narrow bar. If even the bright pips would correspond to wide bars and the black pips to the narrow bars, so that Lt. Cmdr. would have one bright and one black pip, but no! Pure madness, I tell you! (Even if they'd keep the ugly Disco uniforms, I really hope that they at least adopt the Enterprise rank system soon. The badge pips are barely visible.)

IIRC, I believe on the above, one is a captain, the other an admiral.

What you are missing is the Eagle insignia, which is used as a collar device and does not connect to the stripe system at all.

No, that is all for a captain, with collar insignia, shoulder board and sleeve braiding.

the redshirt has a skirt, but is also wearing pants (or a leggings?)

She apparently also has a name (Nahn) judging by the captions.

Which doesn't mean much in this series, considering the bridge crew which had names but were essentially extras. But she might have some story role.

I'm trying to figure out why she's wearing what looks like dual ear-mounted mics in every single shot. Some sort of implants?

I think she’s a near human looking alien.

The devices could be related to her biology. Or just a communication device

Pike's yellow is a good uniform. The other "Constitution" uniforms don't work. Something is really wrong with the science blue, can't put my finger on it. And the Redshirt seems off too. Can't quiet put my finger on it.

The rank bands are way too close to the end of the sleeve. That's the main thing that bugs me.

I also think the shoulder padding is conspicuous on science guy, but I'm not a big fan of the padding in general.

The collars on the "Disco TOS" Uniforms. I see why they're the way they are, to match the DSC Uniforms, but I hope that in by the time Disco Kirk* takes command, that the uniforms look more the ones in Beyond.

* Disco Kirk? That conjures up a whole other image that has nothing to do with uniforms. Graphic Designers: someone out there of you must bring my vision to life! :p

She moonlights as a singer in the ship's band.
